Rod Building Video
Having been asked to make a video on how I build a custom rod I have started on one. This is the first step starting with planning. More videos to come from start to finish on a bait casting crappie rod. Remember this is how I build a rod and is in now way intended to disparage how others build a rod.

I really enjoyed the video - lot to be said about "old school". Still have Dale Clemens Rod Wrapping and Thread Art books from the 80s. Also have a collection of Rod Wrapping magazines from way back. I can remember spending tall money for his VHS tapes when they came out....
Thank you cw for the post.

Always interesting to hear a fellow rod builders thoughts on different styles to build a rod, you never know when you will learn something new. And i have to agree, the old way of building a rod is still the tried and true way of today. I may be 29 but when i started building them in high school for a grade in shop class, my teacher made me watch a number of Dale Clemens Videos. I often still use a number of his ways over the new "better" styles of building.

There has got to be a better software for editing these videos than what I am using. :banghead

I’m still editing the name weave video. Because these are instructive with a lot of steps I’m having trouble keeping them under an hour. When I start fishing videos it should be easier to hit the 20 minute target.

Rod building videos should be long. Things take time and so does rod building. It reminds me of the older style videos we used to watch were someone was performing a task that you watch yet telling you a story to listen to! Captivation through eyes and ears.
One thing you repeated throughout ypur videos that I loved... this is how I do it. Then you explained why.
I thought they were great.

Wrangler just last night me and the wife started watching your videos. I believe she is more interested in building a rod than me now!! Haven't got to finish them yet but I really do like the fact that you put a lot of time and explanation in your videos and I thank you for that! I'm sure once we get through them I will have a lot of questions. I've never built my own rod but I would like to build at least one. Thank you again for the time and effort you have put into the videos it really shows how much pride you have in your craftsmanship. I will post again later after I've watched all the videos and have written down all the questions I can think of [emoji16]
