I had a 1/4lb of minnow's in my 19q one for 10 days so far and only lost 5. I bought them when I went to my dad's in AL for a week of fishing and ended up letting them sit on the porch for 7 days due to rain that would not stop. I am back home and he said that none besides the 5 we lost have died yet and he plans to take them fishing soon. I am a firm believer in those coolers now. I also bought a different pump for it and it's been amazing since it has a built in battery that runs for 10 hours. Hey Bama, quick question on your pump. Lets say I charge it with the wall charger and then run it all day in the boat and the battery goes out. Can I then plug the usb into the 12v socket on my boat and run it on 12 volts. Does it run while it charges on the 12 volt too?
Check out the 25qt Wyld Gear bait cooler. After having one I'll never own anything else. Best on the market IMO. More expensive but certainly a get what you pay for item.

Yea it will run while also re-charging the battery. I have several battery packs for cell phone so I plan to keep one charged in my tackle bag so I have it if ever needed for my phone or the pump.
I've had it out in a misting rain and had some splashes on it so far. The housing seems pretty well sealed but I'm sure it is not waterproof. If you use it in a boat you might be able to mount the pump somewhere it will stay dry and run a longer hose to your minnow cooler.
What ya'll paying for those Engles? Bout $75? Cost about $25-$30 total. Been using it for 5 years now and only have to buy a new aerator every other year or so. This is a 32 Quart. Attachment 332383Attachment 332384

I got lucky with mine and won it in a Raffle for $11. I would be hard pressed to pay retail for one but it is one heck of a nice setup since I have a SUV and it keeps me from spilling water in my car.

How do the engles do in the summer? Do they keep the water fairly cool? I almost bought a 30qt yesterday.
I haven't used mine in the summer yet but the water stayed quite cool for several days in 60 degree weather last week.
They do great. Had one for 2 years now in the Mississippi summers and usually don't have a dead minnow the first two days of fishing. I do put 2 10 oz. Frozen bottles in on the first night though. Just in case. I like mineQuote:

Go to Walmart and buy you one of the small ozark trail coolers.. a lot more durable than the Engle. You can step on it with confidence. Not sure what quart mine is.. but it’s one of those roto molded deals. Even had a better handle. And it won’t blow out.

I would use silicone to seal it if I modified a regular cooler.
If it's a sealed cooler you don't want it sealed completely. Remember, you are pumping in air. For you to be able to pump in air, air has to be able to escape. If it's a regular igloo cooler you can seal it cause they're not air tight anyways
