Got to have a trolling motor. In certain conditions a finder ain't needed but it will definitely help. Once you know a lake you should know where the good fishing spots are. Standing timber, bridge pillars, rip rap, brush piles, etc.

Love the FFs but wouldn't even go out without a TM. But that might depend on what kind of fishing you enjoy.
Let me clarify a little, I currently have a trolling motor and a small FF, but was looking at upgrading and curious as to which had more relevance, TM with GPS/spot lock, or FF with side imaging. I appreciate the input

"Trolling motor"
A trolling motor with i-Link capabilities not just built in GPS / Spot lock but get the I-Link function now it's far less expensive than upgrading it later when you want the integration with the fish finders
I was in the same boat you were in a few years back and bought a fish finder first. I immediately knew I had made a mistake the first time I hit the water and the wind was blowing like crazy. Do the Trolling Motor first.

Trolling motor by a long shot . I had no problem using a flasher for years . Do I want to go back ? Nope ,but a 24 volt trolling motor now is a requirement for me .
Thank you everyone for your input.

Without a doubt go with the trolling motor first. No question about it in my book

Not knowing anything about what you have or where you want to go with it. I have to go with advanced 24volt trolling motor also. You appear to be a HB man but before you pull the trigger make sure of brand connectivity and what fishfinder technology you are going to link with it. Its a long term investment and there are lot of options out there nowadays...
Spot Lock - no doubt about it. I use my spot lock a lot more than my side imaging.
Me I am totally different so used to running trolling motors by foot from Bass fishing that I would go with the SI first. Trolling motor will not find you fish, with Crappies usually not always but usually on some type of structure I could throw out a marker and control the boat on my own. Unless you fish a bunch of stronger current areas or fighting high winds then yes go with spot lock first.
SI will find you more fish then anything else you could buy and learn how to use it.
A good trolling motor.
