Kids grow up
Just a few days ago he was little. Today he made Eagle Scout. Proud of the kid. Even more humbled by all the people that have had a hand in keeping this kid on the right path. Lots of quality family, friend, an impressive string of teachers, a male bus driver that was his best friend for 3 years of middle school, fishing guys from the internet, Military, Police, and Game Wardens that allow us to play and not worry about the world. So many more.........I could right a book about being Blessed, but nobody would believe it.
Thanks guys.

As an example. Middle of nowhere public high school. Driver's Ed training. Brought in a crashed car. Beer cans still inside. Simulated victims. Fire and EMS cut this car apart to get the victims out. The young intoxicated driver survived to go to jail. Yep, he got a sobriety test and then cuffed. Watched his friends get worked on by EMS and real nurses volunteering there time. Most of them got zipped up in body bags while he watched. VA State Police Med Flight landed in the baseball field and came to assist. That officer was his School Resource Officer. A good guy with a belt full of tools to be used for good. He invited Dayton to come on a ride along when he turns 18 next month. Don't let the tv fool you. Our world is full of people doing great things.

Thanks for the post Dayton. Some people won't believe this but I remember the last time I saw him he was even shorter than you. Seriously tho it is really refreshing to read about the good some people do in our mixed up country.

Looks like y'all did a fine job of raising him.

You did a real good job, I see you give a lot of credit to the community but it had to start at home. My boss used to give me resumes to look at when she was hiring engineers. I always passed over the education and experience parts, looked for one of two things, Eagle Scout or former Marine both signs of true commitment.

Great job Big D and Bigger D. You both should be proud!!!
Nice to read some great news about some great people.

Congratulations to the whole family!

Great perspective, Dayton. Maybe you are close to getting something figured out...

Man......seeing that youngster in the boat just takes me back to a really good time. That was around 2006-2008ish time frame........we had a really fun group on this forum, all revolving around Shoer, Panman, Dayton himself, the gruff feller that lived over in New Kent slabenomics or something like that.....Dayton's friend (big dude, can't remember his name to save my life...think his user name was named after the type of aluminum boat he had)........we had George (Tapout) on the forum telling us his adventures on Western Branch and Lake Prince.....Corker posting about Pickett, pulling his jonboat with a minivan and wearing a conductor's cap...
Them were the days. They go quick don't they Dayton?
I gotta a funny story that I think about when I think about your son....it wasn't funny at the time but in hindsight we can laugh about it. Remember Shoer had fallen on bad times, he let his demons take over and he just wasn't the sweet hearted do-anything-for-ya kinda guy that we'd come to know. Well, it was right in all the midst of that drama that he posted something ugly toward you Dayton and like I said, it wasn't funny at the time, it was more heartbreaking to see him like this.....but he posted something trying to jab or hurt you and it was along the lines of "that bratty kid laying in the floor board of the boat waddling around because he was bored and couldn't sit still"...
To this day I remember that line and I get the mental image of a perfectly normal thing for a young kid to do when they're bored out on a boat and just wanna go home. Heck I probably did that as a kid too a time or two to my old man. That's just being a kid! But like I said, I know he was saying it out of mean-spirit and it was the alcohol talking not really him.....but to this day, what ....10 years later that still cracks me up to think of him saying that.

Good job Dayton and son. Eagle is quite an acomplishment, even more so in this day and time. Now take him fishing, anyplace he wants to go.

Thanks guys. It has been fun and frustrating. He and I butt heads quite a bit. But i’m told that’s teenager typical.
Greg, I think it is going to cost me more than a fishing trip. Boy is redneck thru and thru. About three years ago at a show he kept admiring the same item at many tables. Stainless 45LC Bisley. I made the mistake of saying that when he makes Eagle we’d get one. Well, guess what he was looking at on the computer the other night? Sure wish he could remember homework assignments that well!!!
My kids have a guardian Angel that walks with them. My Mother in Law. A great Woman. She went to Heaven when he was 5. I Know she watches over him. I’ve seen proof. I’ve got a very nteresting story sabout that. But that’s not over the internet stuff.
I’d Love for that Lady to tell me if my outboard motor problem is the Stator, powerpack, optical sensor or a bad ground somewhere. But I’m not wasting a prayer on that. I’ll figure it out.
Good fishing guys. Looking forward to some sunshine.
If you are bored I found this while going through an old hard drive. At about the 1:50 mark they talk about our Flag. He’s is 8 in that video. Love that kid.
