Is that the old Collins bait shop? I knew Tom very well!
Went in there with my dad when I was a kid.

Been in there many times but that has been many years ago.
Had many a cold drink there and loved watching the catfish in the trough in the bottom . Late 60's .
I loved that place as a kid with the live catfish underneath. Rode our bikes over the little bridge from the camp ground. Fished a few youth fishing rodeos off the dirt banks before they extended the rocks past the camp ground. Nearly fell in one time when part of the dirt bank gave way. we spent many nights camping down there growing up. I always wanted to ride that cart on the cable that ran across the river. I still don’t know what that was for. Anyone know?

I loved getting either the strawberry Shortcake Good Humor ice cream bars or those orange push-up ice creams treats when we camped at the spillway. Good times for sure.
Obviously, I am far too young to remember that...
Didn't they have a alligator or large snapping turtle in a minnow vat or was that the old Green Door place?

They used to have big concrete minnow vats each one was prolly 4’x4’x4’ and they had two rows of either 4 or 5 and they would have flat heads or turtles in one of them.... used to love going in there when I was a kid

believe it or not when i was 5 i went to walmart and they had baby gar in some of the fish tanks i cant remember if they were trying to sale them or a manager put them in for fun but it was bizzare looking back
Yup. Went to Collins mostly though.
Had a "Mississippi " zoo at one time below the dam . Was down near the old run boat ramp . I was always amazed how many people bought night crawlers at that bait shop when you could rake up a couple hundred in a short time in that same area .
I remember it well.
Been in there many times, couldn't make it up those stairs now if I had to, just had a total knee replacement last week.
I remember when it burned down. I caught a lot of the flathead that were sold in the vat beneath the store
I lived at the airport and road a bicycle to the spillway to fish. Mr Cooper was the mans name that run the place
