I remember those....I never had one but a friend of mine did.
What a great find,, I would love to find one of those now. They were very affordable too.
In the early years Johnson made some real good reels at a real good price like the Century, Sabre, 710.
I still have a Century and Sabre. Virgil Ward used them so they were good enough for dad.
I still have two centuries. Fish with them some now. Really like the slow retrieve of the centuries.
I have a couple of those early Centurys as well. Grew up beating the heck out of 'em and like a Timex, they just keep on ticking! :)
If you wanted a spinner bait to stay up high in water, you had to start reeling before spinnerbait hit the water. I loved my Johnson Century's.
I still have a Sabre. Very heavy by today's standards.

Here’s an old Johnson that’s rarer than most I’ve ever seen. Javelin spincaster that looks like a bait caster.

That was the state of the art stuff back then. As a very young kid and longing to graduate from the cane pole as the most advance fishing means I knew... I remember long time coveting my first Zebco 202 Series combo.
MY HOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED... but then again... I guess that's a phrase that EVERY geezer is destined to say at some point or another.
