I am trying to organize my baits but I cant find boxes that fit the packages the way I would like. My question is. Do you guys keep your baits in their original packs? Would it hurt to take them out? I bought some nice stackable containers to use. It would be nicer if they weren't in the packs...
Saw a thread on this the other day. A lot of guys using worm bags I think they’re called. Not sure if it was on this main forum or Mississippi page

Luke and I just went to Academy and got a little bag that has a binder and about 10 zipper bags. We separated all our jigs and jigheads by color so we could find them faster. It fits about 30 packs of jigs and lots of heads. It was 14.99.
Every time I take jigs out of the pack, they dry before I can use the all.
I still use the Plano plastic boxes and just take dividers out to try and fit packages best that I can. I typically try and leave in original package as long as possible. Don’t know if it makes much difference on longevity but makes much easier to order when u run low if u have packages.

Spray a shot of PAM cooking spray in each bag and shake....it will keep them from drying out.

Can i store them in the container pockets out of the bags then? I'm guessing the fish dont get spooked by Pam odors?Quote:

I've found keeping them in the original packs they will last a long long time. I don't pump mine up with any additives and they do fine. Keep them out of the sun and a cool dry place. The worm bags seem to be a big hit, may have to look into them. I keep mine in plastic cases folded up in a soft side tackle bag.
Cheap boxes. .69 each at hobby store. If my jigs dry out I have to change strategies,not fishing enough. I store the boxes out of the sun in a backpack. The lids will warp in a year so throw away and start over. Attachment 330161

Found these at Micheals about 3 weeks ago. The lids warp after a year but I just can them and move on. We had a coupon to get that price but regular price was only 99 cents.

I use clear 3”x4” ziplock type bags that are 4 mil thick. Kinda like the ones some bait companies will send your order in. They aren’t expensive. Then I have a smallish, light carrying zipper bag with the bigger ziplock binder sheets that I put the 3x4 bags into. Sorted by like colors or whatever floats your brand of OCD. You can usually fit more with less bulge this way if they come in bigger packages like Garlands, etc. If the og package has a seal and is small, or there a reason to keep them in the og packaging (pre-scented/oiled or there’s too many to fit in the 3x4 without smooshing or wading them up for example), then I just leave them. You can pray a little slab sauce or whatever in the 3x4s to keep them moist if you use the stuff anyways. Some like WD-40. But if you keep them out of the heat and sun, they keep fine as is.
I use a clear storage box that also fits in the carrying bag for jig heads, hooks, other lures. And another one for bobbers, weights, etc. It’s got a few pockets inside and a zipper pouch for anything else. This setup is ideal for bankfishing creeks and stuff with the shoulder strap, but the basic idea applies to bigger bags or binders.

Better be sure they are worm/plastic proof or you will have a heck of a mess if they stay in it very long !!!
Until about a month ago I've been trying to get organized ever since I started fishing and that was about 40 years ago. Now I'm trying to STAY organized. I have tried keeping the plastics in their own bags in a tackle bag, I've tried organizing them in little compartments in Plano boxes. I've tried just about everything they make except a "worm" notebook.
About a month ago I was at the Walmarks and I bought some clear plastic boxes about the size of shoebox. They aren't in the fishing department, they're with the plastic totes, and other stuff like that. They have a clear lid and one little blue tab on each end that flips up to lock it closed. So far, so good. It's keeping the boat cleaner and my stuff organized.
I have so many packages of plastics in different styles and colors that I'd need a golf cart to carry them all in hard plastic boxes! Much easier to just keep them in their original packages and get a soft sided tackle bag to put those in. More compact and there's nothing wrong with the original packaging. And yes, do spray in a squirt or two of Slab Sauce. Goooood stuff! :)
I keep mines in labeled Plano boxes. I write manufactors name on the box and mix them with mineral oil to keep them lubricated. Keep sunlight away from them and they will last a longtime.

Back a couple years ago I bought a couple of boxes from Harbor freight with a flip lid and four clear plastic lidded totes on the side I use for hand tied jigs, I also have a larger fishing box with a double fold out lid and 8trays that swing up,(4 trays with compartments on each side), and a fairly large compartment in the bottom. I picked it up in a flea market store for nine dollars. Then a couple weeks ago My CPAP machine decided it was done. When I went to the VA they gave me a new one of a different style as they said parts for the old one was obsolete, and the tech gave me the bag back as he threw out the old machine in the trash can. So I am keeping all my plastics in the old zippered CPAP machine bag...My sweetheart says I shouldn't need to buy any tackle for a coupe of years now...LOL...

These are what I use for my Crappies plastics have 2, I can stuff a lot of stuff in these, keep plastics in original packages. I really like these being a multispecies angler they keep my Crappie plastic all in one place and take very little room.

I think the waterproof stowaway boxes by Plano keep my soft plastics fresher longer. I put a couple drops of plain mineral oil in each bag before dumping them into the hard plastic box to keep them squishy and prevent sticking together. I’’ve got some saltwater soft plastics that are going on six years old that are like brand new using this method. Keep them sealed up so air can’t dry them out, keep them out of the sun to prevent fading, and don’’t store them outside where they’’re going to melt/fuse together in the 150 degree summer heatand your baits will last a long time.

LOL......that’s my store. When my TM packet gets empty I open the big bag and refill it. Of course since that color is what I use for the majority of fishing I do I don’t need too big of a tackle box. This is what I take in my boat....and in my bucket when walking a bank. Those few colors under the packs of Bison rarely get used. There is a pack of white at the bottom that is so old the coloring has gone from the bag it is in.....I can’t remember the last time I even fished white. I do have to say Trout Magnets have more resin in them than any other bait I’ve seen.Attachment 330483Quote:
