Going all in (Oconee)
Just took off work for Thursday this week. Weather looks prime(ish) for a better chance at catching my first crappie in Oconee. Going to try Sugar Creek bridge and maybe cove mouths again and see if i can drum some up to the boat this time.
I see a lot of folks mention hwy 44 bridge, is this a good alternate if im not locating fish in sugar creek?
Going to try mostly dark color jigs and tip some with minnows and maybe a chartreuse and green or two.

I'll be heading out later this morning to Sugar Creek and I'll let you know what's up..

I fished Sugar Creek yesterday. I fished on the east side of the bridge area. There is an island and I fished on the east side of it. Between the island and the submerged timber. I trolled in 20-24 fow. I fished about 16-20 fow. Any dark colored jig with and without chanteuse tail. Hope this helps.

I noticed that small round island this past trip, I'll have to check that out, thanks!

Where would you all consider the "mouth" of Sugar Creek? Just beyond the fork point?

I would think of it as being the part where the creek channel runs into the main river channel. I seen some boats there yesterday, but I seen more boats up towards the bridge. Look at Navionics and check out the chart viewer (I think that's what it's called) and you'll see a chart of the lake. Hope this helps.

That is quiet a handy app! Thank you dyoemans!! I'd not come across that before, much more detailed than my plastic map.

I'll be out near Sugar Creek Thursday morning in my little 15' Gheenoe (brown/camo) feel free to say hello and any tips are welcome! I'll be spider rigging off the bow and hopefully busy untangling fish off my lines... lol. Ready to break the Oconee Crappie Ice....

I'll be sure to look you up if I see you. I'll be in a red Ranger boat with 4 spider rigs on it. Be careful on that north side on the channel. (There is buoys marking the hazards (tree tops) and you will really be untangling some lines) Good luck....

Fished Sugar creek today. Caught all my fish long lining . The fish all hit a pink head jig with a june bug body/chartreuse tail fished a double rig about twelve foot deep. Only had one rod set up that way so change up another rod and caught on that one. No bites on any other color. Fished from the island to the main river but all fish came from the area between island and timber buoys. Water temp 53

Thursday Feb. 7 Update: (not sure if folks care this late after a trip or not?...)
Fished 7:30am-5pm stayed around sugar creek
Fish: (1) 14" crappie (personal best)
Jig: Blue Ice Baby Shad Jig, 1/16 head
Learned: I probably should have moved to some different locations when I stopped seeing fish. Also learned spider rigging in timber area can be catastrophic to your lines.
Hooked what I believe was a striper, it took off with my drag screaming, fun fight for a min on a 12' crappie pole then broke up leader. Was pleased that the leader for my jigs worked and did not loose everything, just the jig it bit.
