Yesterday the fish where not in the area of lake I was fishing. Next time I'll do better.
Fished around Bull Creek yesterday after work. A lot of small fish but only a few keeper (over 10") fish.
I'm new to Skiatook so went back and read the old post this morning and saw talk about Hominy and Bull creek will check them out.
Yesterday put in at Black Dog Park and fished to Hwy 20 bridge. Was a day of fishing with only 4 fish no keepers.
Is their anyone guiding for Crappie on Skiatook?
Too muddy up the creeks today but we did finally find some plum trees on the main lake. Tried tiny jigs in 4 colors but caught only tiny fish. It was not a great bite but we managed to clean 2 limits of good fish with one for my pond genetics program. We would have gone home empty without minnows. What a beautiful day!Attachment 359855Attachment 359856

BIG fish, C2. We're headed over there tomorrow, but no fishing. The grandson is starring as the lion in Narnia (the play) up at NEO.
Good job C2.
Finally remembered how to post pictures so I figured I better practice some before my old brain forgot again Reaper!
I'm hitting Skiatook from the bank tomorrow. Targeting smallmouth but bringing my crappie gear. Going to float n fly jigs and being winter, even though its warm, how do you all feel about a drop shot from the bank. So basically my lure will be about 12-18 inches off the bottom.

Wife and I took our two 12 year old Great Grand children out yesterday first time in three years. Put in at Twin points ramp fished bridge and up river for three hours. Not the first bit, using Bobby Garlin and minnows. Water depth from 16' to 30'.
Anyone guide for crappie on Skiatook? I think I need help.
How were you fishing with the minnows ?
Timy: Used single and double rig for minnows. Alone on a jig & with different color & style plastic lure. Fished all depths of water. Thanks for your question.
Think I can help you out here and make your next trip a little better. There's no better time to catch big crappie than February. Don't know is you tried drop shots with double minnow rigs but it is the best way to catch big crappie. Try using a 3/8 ounce drop shot weight. Before you tie on the weight, just slide two 1/0 hooks on the line then tie on the weight. Set the first hook above the weight about 15 inches and set with a double loop. Set the second hook about 12 inches above the first hook. Keep your loops small in the winter like an inch to limit the minnow to a lot of movement Watch your graph close. Crappie may be in a very small area of a brush pile. If the water is choppy, let the weight set on the bottom with a little slack in the line. This way the bait is not jumping up and down. Last never go fishing without crappie niblets on the hook with your minnow and get bigger minnows not small ones. Tail hooking the minnow is much better than nose hooking in the winter. Best of Luck!
timY: Thanks many hidden jim's in your info. I sure felt bad not putting Grand kids on fish. Almost never fish this time of year.
One more small bit of information on winter crappie. Leave the plastic off and fish straight minnows and niblets. Once the water temp hits 55 deg start tipping plastics with minnows. I have filleted a lot of big crappie in the winter full of 3 to 4 inch shad so keep that in mind. I fish with a lot of different people throughout the year and there is no pressure like there is when I have my granddaughters or wife in the boat. It is very important they catch fish. It's great you are taking them they won't forget it.
Any luck fishing from the bank? I know the water is up in some locations which make it tougher, but bank fishing is the only option my son and I have.
While I cant say for sure with crappie, but I tore up the smallmouth and large mouth there from the bank 2 weeks ago.

Slow day but any day catching something is better than nothing. Caught the bass by surprise and found the channel locks on the shore.

In Tall Chief Cove there is alot of standing trees in the water. Do crappie relate to tree trunks the same way they do submerged trees and brush? Has anyone fished the Tall Chief Cove area of Skiatook for crappie?
