BnM - Go Big or Go Home...

So I got a BnM PT184 18ft. long Power Troller. They are designed for pulling crank baits. But I live down here in Florida. Florida lakes are shallow and have lots of Lilly Pads. Hmm. I've been using a 14 ft long BnM BGJP to dip pads with but I was starting to think, hmmmm....18 ft long, Power Troller....might be interesting. It really don't weigh a lot. Barely over a pound. So I'm thinking I'm gonna try it. Also, I like that it's stiff, cause you can pull the crappie out of the pads easier, especially since its reaching out 18 ft away from you! What you all think?

This is a substantial product. Piecing it together feels like your putting a barrel on a rifle receiver. It's solid for sure. I plan to break it down into two 9 ft sections when travelling with it on the boat, and piece it together when ready to use. It's kinda what I've been doing with the 14ft BnM's I've been using for dipping pads. Makes for easy and I believe, safer transport.

Set your drag loose - hold the line with your finger when dippin the pads & set the hook - lift the fish to the surface with the rod & then strip line by hand off the reel to get your fish to within grabbing or netting range. :twocents

Would be neat if you could remove a section and have choice of lengths if wanted. 14-18 .

I dont know, was using a 12' and dropped down to 10' to be more manageable and less to hold all day.

Heck, Whitey Outlaw uses 10' and never shuts his motor off.

Worth a shot. Let us know how it works. The weight of it fishing all day would be my only concern.

18 ft :yikes hope you don't need an 18 ft net too:biggrin

Now you just need 7 more for spider rigging.

Sounds like a doodle rod, it should work fine for dipping in the pads,

Good idea and I am sure it will work, but....I'm afraid that thing is gonna get heavy after a few minutes. Maybe use it for long lining jigs? Best way to fish further from the boat in shallow, dark tannic water is to use an ultra lite in my opinion.

:Rofl ... I'm afraid a deep sea reel still wouldn't balance that long a rod. His best bet is to use two hands when holding it & jigging the pads ... or else put a float above a jig/minner & set the rod into a rod holder until the float goes under !!

Actually, we have some crank & jig Pushers that use 20' rods around here. :biggrin (BnM makes XLong trolling rods in 18' & 20' lengths)

Gonna take a 4/0 Penn to balance that! Lol

Shouldn't lose any jigs with that one unless you're fishn deeper than 18'.......
I know BnM don't recommend pushing your jig off structure but if the hook is not buried it for sure works......

I see Crappie Masters Pro's push their jigs off snags with the tip of their BGJP's all the time. Never seen one that don't!
