It will be much easier to just buy a stringer and remove the snaps you want. Stringers are pretty cheap.
I buy those cheap chain stringers for the clips. Then I use big split rings to add clips to a cable stringer to make a stringer that will hold a limit of 15 here in our Mo. waters.

This is how I made them with a cable stringer. Use them in my livewell, can't miscount number of fish, never over the limit. Usually is not my problem to deal with anyway. Lol.Attachment 328614

I have a crimper for cable and cut and recrimp cable. Most farm supply stores have the crimps. Garage door suppliers would recrimp cable for you.

Also talk to Jarad at Everhart's in Clinton. He was going to see if anyone made such a stringer. He would carry them at the store if he could get them.

Memphis Net and Twine or perhaps Jann's Netcraft or other net makers should have snaps.
Turtles around here feast on stringer fish. I use a wire basket when I dock fish or sometimes when out in Jon boat.

Shower curtain snaps might work for you with an o-ring. You will have to decide if they would be heavy enough gauge for your needs. MrBaker posts some videos on Lake of the Ozarks and he was using the system displayed above. Pretty cool idea, and he has some good videos.
I have trouble with turtles too, I use a nylon clothes bag or decoy bag with a cord extension.
Mr. Baker was where I got this idea. Works great. Thanks Mr. Baker.
