I like the golden ruler but the thing gets really grimy after an afternoon of fishing.
Any suggestions on a good cleaner? Anyone tried coating it in turtle wax or something to make it easier to wipe off?

I've been known to put mine in the dish washer :Rofl ... but, I don't know if "waxing" it :dono would make any big difference.
I use simple green. Works good on the outside of my Xpress boat as well. Makes scum lines wipe off easily. But in my case it takes a few trips before my golden rile needs cleaning. :Rofl
Same as D. I buy it by the gallon.

Baby wipes, I keep em in the boat all the time. Also, store it in the livewell, the standing water in the livewell makes it easier to clean.
Baby wipes will take the crap off anything!!!!
I almost commented on Rees's post about the baby wipes, but.....I think I'll let that dog lie.:RoflDawn dish detergent, soap and water. lol
Keep liquid dish soap and small brush at cleaning table to clean table, board and golden rule.

They said it all!
Just wipe it off on your fishing partners blue jeans after each trip.
Good thinking Calvin
You wimps! Why bother? I don’t clean mine as too busy using it. :Rofl
Don't have to clean mine either!!

As long as the numbers can be seen on mine I'm good to go. My main one is screwed down to my deck but I have one that isn't that is usually in my console livewell so slime doen't have a chance to build up. If I was inclined to clean mine it would be with "Awesome" cleaner.
I brag about fish slime and it's welcome on my dinky tin fishin boat, after filleting on my boat I rinse the cutting board in the lake and the fish and turtles chow on the guts.[emoji3][emoji217][emoji226][emoji226][emoji476][emoji476]

Dawn & a brush clean it.
If I had to use a Golden Rule I would be fishing in the wrong Lake
Bleach with cutting board and counter tops . 50 % water solution and rinse well .
I just carry an extra 5 gallon bucket and at the end of a trip I dip it full in the lake and throw the ruler or fish checker along with pliers and anything else in it for about a 5 minute soak and then I take a micro towel and clean it all up along with cleaning up my locators and all is ready to go for the next trip.
Windex works wonders

Just wonder if powder coat paint would prevent it from sticking on real hard.
take one of those green plastic dish washing pad In your boat and at the end of fishing just wet it and scrub off slime and rinse pad and ruler in lake. works great and you don't need any cleaner fluid.
Splash of bleach, squirt of Dawn in a five gallon bucket half full of water and use my fish towels to clean rule, cutting board, knives, and fish cleaning table. Do
it every time I come in too tired or not. The bucket I use to haul off the waste is just rinsed out with water but it is the same one I put the mix in the next day.
I used my grinder with a tile blade, A hacksaw will do great....
Make a small line with a Sharpie marker or go by the numbers and grind/cut a groove not too deep but legible.
Forget cleaning it !

I always use “gojo” or similar brand wipes that have some sort of texture to them. The grit in the wipes will remove anything from grease to slimy fish scales. The orange scent makes it smell great, and gets the fishy smell off your hands.

We have a 10 inch limit in Tenn so I drilled a 1\8 hole just beyond the 10 inch mark, fish has to cover the hole before I will keep it.I still wash the board every once in a while when it gets nasty.
I like that idea
