I use soap and water. You will probably find that the dull look comes from exposure to sun light.

Dishwashing detergent and warm water......when dry spray and wipe down with Blakemores Reel Magic.....they will shine like new
I break mine down twice a year. I have not found an easy way to remove fish slime mixed with minnow scales. I just keep cleaning until I get them clean. The
last time I cleaned them, I put canuba wax on them (not on the foam handles). They looked like new but it didn't last long. I have used Dawn, WD-40, Greased
Lighting, and Awsome. Didn't find one better than the other.
A soft bristled brush really helps a lot sometimes
Car wax

Baby wipes work great, waxing them helps as once you get them clean too.
Clean and wax or wipe with shellac.
Sos pad will slick them up. Then wd40 on reels. Then wipe them down.
Didn't have any car wax..I washed and rinsed using Dawn..Then wiped down with Blakemore Reel Magic..They look a heck of allot better
Mine get cleaned every time I go fishing in the rain!

Car wax will also keep your line from sticking to the pole. I have a couple 20+ year old poles that the clear coat is coming off of. I was thinking about a light sanding and some spray can clear coat. Don’t know if it’ll work or not.

I use Blakemore Reel Magic on my reels and line but not on my poles. I fish a double jig rig that the top hook is held to the rod with an O ring. Anything oily
will cause the O ring to slide instead of roll making it hard to get the hook between the rod and the O ring.
