Slayed EM' on Jesup

Well guess better late than never, but another testimonial for Slab sauce. Caught somewhere around a hundred specks today in less then 2ft, of water. They were gorging on 1" pin minnows & my 1 1/2" tubes on a 1/64th jig covered in Slab sauce. This place always ceases to amaze me of how so many fish can hold in a 10ft X 10ft area. Had a run a one point catching 25 out of 25 cast. Only 2 hit 13 inches, maybe another (20)/12 ", w/most 10"-11"....plenty of fryers to be had...gotta thank all you guys that have encouraged single pole jig fishing, I would have completely over-looked this day trolling the 1st couple hrs. catching only 2 fish & not having any minnows...

Outstanding day Jeff. You are officially hooked on the single pole style now. Now we just have to get rid of the cork and get the line size little so you can cast just the jig and REALLY feel the thump.

I’ve never been to Jessup. Is there a good ramp and bait shop on the west side. Would be coming from north of Tampa.

Hey Jeff, you want the bag of tubes back that you gave me?? looks like you had a great day. Just a note when I was shad fishing Saturday near the mouth of Jessup did not see a single speck caught in any of the boats that were fishing around me. I only picked up one along with the shad I was catching.

1st I'd like to thank all the guys that gave me the benefit of any doubt...lol...by no means do I have any elder statesman skills to rebuttal any disputes, but will only say I was a lucky guy that had some fun for a couple days, that's right round 2 yesterday...the post was intent for those who fish Jesup or have thought about fishing there. It's the closet lake to my home & traditionally there is only a couple months these fish bunch up like this & it's starting now, so wanted to pass on. The size fish is smaller, but the numbers are great to take a youngster out for some steady action, & take as many as you want, maybe Jesup needs weeding out to grow bigger fish:dono..Bottom line Yobuck, as I think you can relate, is the older we get brings the wisdom to block out any negative noise out there, although I do not believe there was any intent....no #ers, but day 2 good as well, kept 11"-12" fish to clean.... w/a pic of a dark male in his spawning colors...photo-shot out the water splash in livewell shot:Rofl

Cool Jeff, thanks for the update. Never a doubt. Seen the same thing on Griffin, no-one catching anything, but at that one spot, we killed'em. Nice looking male.

Well my comments were meant to be for humorous and not criticle reasons, and I hope they were seen in that manner.
Our minds all function in slightly different ways, and thats apt to trigger different responses to things which can be interesting.
Im a lousy caster, especially with very light tackle, so I as a rule avoid it, even though I keep a rod at ready for it.
I noticed you used a weighted float, and im assuming a float stop on top adjusted for the depth? Or was it just attached to the line?
Again, (my mind), staying in the proper casting position for that long? Anchor? or does your motor do all that?

It's all good my friend...no offence taken & if I ever come off too sensitive, please take me out behind the wood shed....the float was weighted, but not in-line, really helped in casting further using a smaller jig weight & I anchored up:peacesmile

I only went twice. We launched at Lake Jessup Park. It was shallow coming out of it then, and I hear it's still shallow, so be careful if you do go out of there. Sorry but that's all I know.

There's ramps on Rt. 46 (Cameron Wright park) & Jessup lake park(end of Sanford Ave) both are free, w/a shallow cut of canal at Jessup Park now, mainly 3 ft deep. Fish are on the banks now & seam to prefer timber, but are on reeds as well, the key has been to find small minnow hatch, hope this helps, good luck. There is a ramp at Black Hammock, but $10 to launch & parking is far away from ramp, it's a tourist air-boat ride & dinner place.

Jaizzen, you're a lot closer to Lake Tarpon which is a good lake.

I've fished Tarpon a lot, and I do quite well there. I fish hundreds of miles out in the gulf, a little ride to a new Lake really doesn't bother me much.

Bitter's bait is nearby & opens earlier....on RT. 46 in Sanford Baggs Produce sells minnows, but opens at 7am

A few years back, maybe 30, I ran "weather/seas permitting," a 24' Grady w/2 150s and 150 gal fuel, to the canyons off the DL/NJ coast pretty often. App 75 each way, plus 6 hrs or so trolling, and that on just one engine. Till we got back, we were about running on fumes, so I started taking more fuel in remote 6 gal tanks which we burned first, then stowed out of the way up front. And that required the proper pitch props, or it couldn't happen at all, at least as for the getting back part. Have you ever paid Sea tow to bring you fuel 16 miles offshore? lol

It has 2 300 Yamahas, it was costing built for offshore and lightweight, Kevlar.

Never paid Seatow but I’ve been pulled in, only with Mercury’s on the back!

This is it... my speck boat is far less complicated.

I burn 5 gallons a month fishing twice a week in mi 16' flats boat w/ 50 how Tohatsu. I'll burn 60 gallons on one trip with my center console. Guess which boat I use more lol
