As of reviews from 2016 .... #1 is a HB Helix 7 & #2 is a Lowrance Hook 7 .... but, that could have changed over the last two years, because of technological advances in all the major brands.
You'd also have to take into account screen size, price (if that matters), pixel count, and ease of use of the different functions on the different brands and models of those brands.
It's like a Chevy - Ford debate ... satisfied owners of either brand are going to stick up for that brand, so expect the same from depth finder owners.

I started with Lowrance but am now Humminbird. I spent a lot of time learning my way around the Lowrance units and got pretty good on them. I know the consensus is that Humminbird is easier to navigate but I don't completely agree. Maybe my brain is just saturated and overwhelmed with two different setups within one year. I still need more time with my birds on the water. As far as the DI and SI quality, I'm with my birds all day and that's why I switched to them. 2d is another story and I miss that quality from the Lowrance units.
Allow me to confuse you some more...... Garmin. Do some searching on this site, and others. Walleye central, bassboatcentral, too name a few.
What stainless said is very very true. You need to get hands on all of the units your contemplating. Navigate the screens. What works for one person, is a no go for another.
And Raymarine which has some good reviews to.

Yes they do. Isn't their parent company the same as Lowrance?

2d shouldn't be an issue that can only be fixed with a new G3N model. Especially after Humminbird has been promising that it will be fixed via updated software. 2d has been around a long time and should be elementary at this stage in the game. Just my opinion.

I am currently using a Lowrance Hook 7 (gen 1) ... caught it on sale at Cabela's for less than what I paid for my previous unit.
My previous unit was a Lowrance Elite 5 DSI ... bought used on Classifieds forum to replace the b/w 2d unit that came with the boat.
I "changed" to the Hook 7 because I broke a pin (+ battery connection) in the back of the E5DSI unit from too many times of pulling/pushing the power/tdx cord in & out of the unit at an angle. That bent & weakened the pin, and when I tried to straighten it out ... it broke off. I couldn't find a trashed E5DSI to salvage the pin assembly from, for a reasonable price, so I went shopping for a replacement & found the Hook 7 on sale. I reasoned that I was getting a bigger screen with the same DI function & GPS for less money, so I bought it. :biggrin
