Driftmaster

I purchased the Driftmaster Crow Foot mounting system. The problem I have is...the pedestal thread when placed through clearance hole on deck plate (for lack of better words) will not reach the threads in hole below deck. As such, the pedestal will not tighten up at all. Therefore, I have not been able to use. I spoke with the gentleman at Driftmaster and no solution(s) were found. Essentially what I need is a pedestal with longer threads. I have looked and looked to no avail. If anyone can help...I'll be thanking you!

Can you have someone hold it, or you, and take a picture, of it in place. Sometimes solutions come easier, when seeing the problem. Then would guess that someone will come up with the solution.

Go get a piece of threaded rod the same size as your post, use it and you can customize the length you need.

Sounds more like the problem is the threads in the seat post base on your boat is worn out ( this is a common problem ) and you were only catching a couple threads right at the bottom....and so now after the post is raised up from the crow foot plate , the threads on the post are not catching any threads in the post base. You need to replace your 3/4 in. threaded seat base on the deck of your boat.

It threads fine and secures very well without the crow foot base. I do not believe that is it. As you mentioned, the thickness of the base is preventing the threads from making contact. It does the same thing on the rear deck seat. Thanks for your input.

Yep...The threads in my seat bases wore out from the post getting a little loose then the post would rock a little and waller the treads in the base out. Mine would thread at the very bottom just fine but would not stay tight. I had to replace mine problem fixed.

How to post pictures from your computer

Go to: "Setting" (upper right corner)
Click on "General Settings" (left side, middle of My Settings box)

Go to bottom of page and select:

• Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing

Then after you have changed your settings here is what you do ,go make a post......at the upper left of your post window there are some icons run your curser over them the square looking one should say Insert Image
instructions for posting pics............
First you have to click on the "insert image" icon. It is located between the "unlink" icon (that has a red x on it) and the "insert video" icon (that looks like a film strip). These icons are located just above where you type in the quick reply area. Once you click on "insert image", then the box pops up that has the words "insert image" at the top, as the title. Just under the words "insert image" at the top are 2 tabs (choices). One tab is "my computer" and next to it is a tab that says "From URL". It the picture is on your computer, make sure and click on the "my computer" tab (if should turn grey if selected) Then in the bottom right of that box are the words "basic uploader". Click on those words and then click on the "choose file" button that shows up. Then select your pic, click open....then click upload....give it a minute...then click submit.

The rear pedestal seat has not been used by anyone for twelve (12) years. In fact, I don't even install the back seat...because I have no one to fish with. I cant imagine both being wallered out. Thanks. I will try to post pictures.

Just take the pedestal with you to your local welding shop and they can hook you up in just a few minutes. Better yet take the boat, crowsfoot, and pedestal with you to the welding shop.

A welding shop or a machine shop can put a longer pin with threads on that seat pole pretty easy

If that is a 3 inch Long stud they do make a 4-inch long stud pedestal you could spacer out the difference with washers.

The plate looks to be about 1/4" thickness and the carpet thickness is a factor also
Have you tried to stand over and push down on pedestal and turn to compress carpet enough to maybe to grab a thread and start it on?

Would it matter if the threads never catch. Many 3/4 posts don't have threads. I'd bet it fine either way. Check it, don't sweat it.

you are correct the base plate is a 1/4 inch thick...and once again you are correct...the carpet is a factor...never thought of that, thanks. Not sure I want to cut a big square out but I think that would most likely be enough. Yes, I have tried pushing down on it.

The seat is too wobbly if you don't thread. When properly seated (without plate) the butt seat doesn't even wiggle. I really appreciate your response(s). Thanks

Don't cut the carpet. Need someone with lathe who can mill 1/4 inch off.

This should be a pretty easy fix, have the tail end of the flange bent upright and attached with a U-bolt or drill out the hole in the flange large enough to go over the pedestal and attached a thumb screw for a lock to both sides.

1/4 inch off pedestal should be enough to start threads.

Tenn Tux, see pictures make a difference. A lot of good ideas too.

If you know someone with a lathe, they could chuck it up and remove about another 1/4" from the bottom of the pedestal, at the bigger part of the shaft this should give you enough clearance.

you are right S10. I thought I would get some ideas...pictures did the trick. Thanks again for the advice and thanks "G" for showing me the way to post. I believe the crowfoot is a good product. It really blows setting it all up and not being able to use it. I had bought new depth counter reels and rods all ready to do some trolling with newly purchased Picos and Bandits last summer. Major let down. I'm truly surprised that "Driftmaster" did not have more input...ideas...etc. After all, it was designed by them. I mean no disrespect...a little disappointed. Kind of like a kid with a Christmas present and cant play with it. Great forum. Thanks to all.
