Found a deal on a center counsole with a 90 Merc black max oil injected.. The motor is low hours and good compression just will not fire. I am thinking the maybe the trigger assembly is shot. Any ideas before I find out a deal is just another hole to pour money into:eek: Attachment 10197

I sent them an e-mail to see if they still have it. Stumphanger came over a little while ago and drolled all over my keyboard. I will be like Shine..if I do get it the yacht will be for sale. Unless somebody wants to rig it out for me cause I am such a likeable guy:D :D Really clean '87 model 19 footer. Maybe things will work out.

If I ever get it rigged. This is the wrong time of the year to buy a boat. You have to decide whether to go fishing while it's good or work on the boat. Tough decision. Score don't ever forget to move the collar up against the base and tighten it when your trolling motor is up. I'll tell you about it next time I see you. LOL

More than likely the stator is bad, if the stator is not the updated stator, the old stators were black, the new updated stator is red about 450.00 bucks. But this motor had a problem with the way they rolled the wiring on the turns on the black stators and would burn out. Only good thing is the red stators sre pretty much bullet proof. But get it checked before purchasing. Mainly compression
Thanks for the replies guys. The motor has excellent compression just no fire to the plugs. If I get it I know I will eliminate the oil injection. I just don't trust those things. I am still talking to the seller and hopefully can work something out. I sure need a bigger boat:D
I would think the stator is under the flywheel or in that area, I want to check mine. The guy I bought it from said that he replaced it but I would like to be sure. The oil injection has been taken off mine and I mix oil w/gas, previous owner said mechanic told him not to trust the oil injection system. Good luck, I sure hope you get it.
There are 3 things that will knock the spark completely out.
Stator
Switchbox
Kill Wire
The Kill wire is the easiest to check...disconnect the black/yellow wire from the switchbox and then check for spark. Without the black/yellow wire hooked up...the engine will NOT turn off if started.
Stator. OEM was Black and prone to failure..it was never a case of if...its when.
OEM replacement stator is Red...usually never see it fail.
Aftermarket replacement has varnish over the windings and holds up as well as the Red one.
You DO NOT need to switch to the Red OEM version as the Aftermarket one is cheaper and just as reliable.
The extra benefit of the new OEM red one...16 amp charging from 9 amps.
You can purchase DVA adapters for your voltmeters to do the checks on the components...its a cheap investment and can benefit any boater or backyard mech. They work on all brands of engine. So once yours is fixed, you can come to the aid of a fellow boater.

Thanks for the help. It will be here over the weekend and I start trying to troubleshoot it. If I am lucky I can get it fired off without spending all my money on it. Need bait money :D
