Well, after all the kids left to go home and back to school this morning the wife and I decided to give the Madison County LK Trout hole a try this afternoon. They have stocked some real nice fish in there this year. It was fun to get out and catch a few. We managed to catch our 8 fish in about 2 hours. Power bait floated 24" off the bottom on 2lbs test leaders with size 14 hooks were working great. Attachment 326024 :biggrin

I've never, ever caught a trout. I need to give that a try.
I should have tried the trout pond. I got skunked on the main lake today.

It's a put and take fishery. The water is only cold enough to hold the trout Nov-Feb. They stock late Nov and open the day after Thanksgiving and go thru the end of Feb. They charge $5 to fish for trout and you get to keep 4 trout per day. Those 8 fish today weighed 6.5 lbs. Use the lightest tackle you can handle. I use 2-6 main line and 2-for leaders.

Nice Haul! I am planning on a trip down there in early Feb to spend some time with my dad and do some trout fishing at the lake. We love fishing there!
There was a fella using a fly rod with that set up riverboss. Looked like about a 1/80 black headed jig w/red thread and a brownish red squirrel tail hackle. He was catching fish right next to me.Quote:

What method did you use to cook those?
Way to go Bob! Never caught one but have eaten them a couple of times, it isn't a crappie but it's ok. They look good the way you cooked them.

All I did was put flour and spices (pepper and garlic powder) in a plastic bag, dried the fish, threw them in the bag for a good dusting, then put a little olive oil and butter in a frying pan and fried them up. You want to get the skin nice and crispy. I like eating the crispy skin kind of like fried chicken.
