I think it's confrontational for no reason. As an atheist, I can tell you there are very few people on "my side" who care if you do any of that. I say merry christmas, or happy holidays, or whatever. And I not only support our troops, I work for the military. I've seen far more people taking offense to rejections of those things on your sign than I've seen people actually being offended by them.
But, this is a fishing forum. We should stick to fishing talk. I just thought you should know that not everyone thinks exactly like you, yet we can still be friends. In my opinion, the break down of civil discourse is a large part of our issues in this country now. The media drives it, social media multiplies it, and things like your sign do nothing to help.
Happy fishing.
Hmm, not sure. Politics not allowed on crappie.com even though I’m in agreement with the sign. May have to take this down if it becomes too controversial. Make friends not enemies.
Slab if you need to take the post down, or if it violates a crappie.com policy, no problems with me. I didn’t post the picture for a political reason or to be confrontational. The sign doesn’t have anything to do with politics in my opinion. The sign just sums up my personal beliefs pretty concisely. My customers will either agree with it or not. If they do, great. If they don’t, that’s fine too. If it gains me business or costs me business, I’m fine with it either way. At least they’ll know where I stand. Unfortunately it seems as though in this day and time, standing up for your beliefs unfortunately gets mistaken for politics or even worse. People are more worried about offending someone than they are in living out their principles. I just posted the picture because I really like the sign and wanted folks to see it. That’s all.
No worries FF. The sign does have the word politics ("politically" to be exact) in it. But it's just what we try to do here, we try to stay out of the controversies. We try to have at least one place where we can get away from all the JUNK on the Internet. There's lots of other places for controversy, prolly too many places. We are all about "family, friends, fishing and fun". Pretty much in that order. Think "Disney" clean. But like I said, no worries. If it does go south we can always take it down.

Sounds like a place I'd like to work at.....you hiring? :biggrin
I'm going to pass on this one, But I love the sign. Oh well!
According to Encyclopedia Britannica, political correctness (PC), is the term used to refer to language that seems intended to give the least amount of offense, especially when describing groups identified by external markers such as race, gender, culture, or sexual orientation. The concept of political correctness has been discussed, disputed, criticized, and satirized by commentators from across the huge political spectrum. The term has often been used derisively to ridicule the notion that altering language usage can change the public’s perceptions and beliefs as well as influence outcomes. Accordingly, I do not see any way that this sign "on its face" is "Politically Correct".
According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, Political incorrectness is the attitude or policy shown by someone who does not care if they offend or upset any group of people in society who have a disadvantage, or who have been treated differently because of their sex, race, or disability. Accordingly, I do not see any way that this sign "on its face" is "Politically Incorrect".
As I understand it the purpose of politics (itself) is to enable the members of any community (including this one) to collectively interact to the end of achieving important human goals they cannot otherwise achieve independently without support and/or like or unlike positions on any given subject matter, such as that we see every day on this forum-- through reasonable and thoughtful discussion, debate, legislation and other such (for lack of a better word) political mechanisms. The difficult part, however, is achieving the hallmark of politics and that is: always working to make sure that politics works at its best by seeing to it that it works to procure safety, order and general welfare within the community, which is the "erring" or "straying" of public discourse referred to in this thread.
I personally believe Disney World is one of the most PC organizations in the entire world... which in my mind is also a "political" and "commercial" stance and not necessarily a good and wholesome one. In fact: By the very definitions (above) politics (in fact) are plentiful enough on the Crappie.com forum no matter how much we'd like to call it something else other than what it is. My case in point is not to excite argument, but to simply say that surely as members express their opinions, experiences, displeasure, support or non-support for certain products over others, family matters, birth announcements, comments on customer service experiences, disdain for government shutdowns, need for prayers, even lots of nonsensical blabbering and a myriad of other things; we surely must see that these are all technically political interactions by definition.
All of that being said: I also believe that Slab's (and the moderator's) "firm" position on politics, (while way too sensitive and over the top at times), works more importantly to protect safety, order and the general welfare within the Crappie.com Community. No doubt, this foundational principal focus on family, friends, fishing and fun are precepts that can do no harm to anyone; yet can do and have done much to further the purposes and spirit of Crappie.com. Accordingly, I completely support Slab's easy choice of erring on the side of protecting safety, order and the general welfare of the Crappie.com community and not choosing to spend his (or his moderator's) time refereeing world politics and endless arguments about same.
Well OK then. I'll go ahead and close this thread as it's only going to create heat, and we are here to fish! May God Bless, and thank you for your service (for those that served, or are serving).
