Ok guys we need to do a vote.We don't care where we go we just want to fish.So i have 2 questions need answer to by Christmas.
1.Is there anywhere close to Monticello to buy bait?
2.Where would everyone prefer to go to?Lake Wylie or Monticello?I understand Monticello stays pretty clear but how is the crappie fishing there?

I'm not sure about bait down there. I'm sure it is available somewhere because other people down there fish with minnows. There is a store close to the exit on Hwy 215 to upper end but I haven't stopped in there. We carry our bait from here in Rock Hill. As crappies goes, I guess you could find them closer to the shore line. We have only been chasing the perch which are good size along with smaller ones included. Yes, it is a clear lake mostly from what I hear. You may have to postpone until weather and water clears up if you don't get enough to participate. You can check out Steve Comalander video's on Monticello. He fishes everyday there just about! He has it down pat!:twocents If I were going I'd say Monticello. But I have been there and still trying to learn how to fish down there. It is a tough lake not knowing where to start at! :banghead Just my :twocents tackleboat, Mr. Charles and others that's been there know more than I. Hopeful they will speak out about Monticello! :highfive
I kinda like the idea of a new area to try. Everyone would be on an even playing field so to speak. That’s just my 2 cents. But it is up to the ones that are planning on fishing.

The landing off of state road 99 has restrooms & a nice dock. This is at the upper end of the lake. Since we normally end up on the lower end of the lake, usually, we use the landing off of Hwy 215. No restrooms but it does have a small dock(Not very user friendly at all). It can be a lot of trouble to load the boats if you have a southwest wind .The lake can get very rough in a mild southwest wind.
There is a small store on 215 just before you get to state road 99 but I'm not sure if they have minnows. I plan on going down there wed to go after cats & perch. On our last couple of trips, we have not had any luck with the cats. Marked a lot of bait & perch but nothing showed up like cats on the bottom. Usually, we can mark spots with a lot of cats. We have had the best luck with the cats, anchoring in about 40' & fishing on the bottom in 30 to 70'. Cut bait(perch, shad, herring) work well for us.
I have only tried to catch crappies a couple of times years ago in the summer time. Never did have any luck.
Lately , we have been catching a good many good size perch fishing minnows & spoons just off the bottom in 40 to 50' at the lower end of the lake. The bass like the spoons & minnows also. There is an exclusion boundary for the plant with markers which you have to stay out of. It is well marked.

I love Monticello for Bass and catfish but don't know much about crappy down there the water fluctuate so much it's hard to keep up with it, I think everybody's got a little more confidence on Wylie but it's up to y'all

Monticello is very hard to fish with any kind of wind. Wylie has some clear water north of the south fork river. my 2 cents.
Ok making the call now..Weather permitting we will gather at Lake Wylie Ebenezer Park on the 29th...Gonna do a lil time change..9:00 lift off and 2:00 return..Still monitering weather and will make a call Thursday around 6:00 pm
