Junk?

Been fooling with this Yamaha 25 for a long bit. Had finally gotten it about right. (Most wldve knocked it out in a day) THEN got water in the fuel some how. Go figure. Got that cleaned up. Been working at this boat and motor for two years and only been out once. Good thing I know how to paddle and catch fish. Long whiny story short, no fuel going from motor in to the fuel filter. Gotta be tank or hose right? Tank seems good. Female fittings on hose have some damage around o-rings. Cut some sections of tank hose. No expert but looks like innermost lining sucks?

W/ Xmas here and multiple other financial hurdles I don’t wanna drop $70 on a complete fuel setup.
Thing I may be able to swing some line if anyone thinks it’s the culprit?

Any and all help is appreciated.

Go to the auto parts store...I use NAPA. Tell them you want some ethanol resistant fuel line....you can buy it by the ft.

That's what I did, too "G". That Atwood fuel line and bulb in Wal-Mart is not worth bringing out of the store. Cheap fix.

Get the hose G said. Clean out connectors on either end. Pull lines from connector block on motor, blow them out. Might even remove fuel pump and dis assemble and clean out. Should be good to go for couple hr's work and 20.00.

I just went through the same thing with my 1999 25 hp Yamaha, I went to my local Napa A P store and bought the fuel line that is ethanol resistant. Also changed both connections to the tank and motor, both had damage to the O rings. I had water getting in my tank from the tank fitting, tried silicone still leaked after some time then tried a 2 part epoxy that held a little longer, still looking for a permanent fix short of bying a new tank. Wish i was closer I like tinkering with mine, got it starting on the first pull. Good luck.

Atwood is actually owned by Mercury. The primer bulbs are the same but they make their fuel line a little bit cheaper though. I sell a brand called Scepter at my shop. It has a thicker inner lining than the Merc fuel line and is about 2/3 the price. You have to be careful when you push any brand over a primer bulb or fuel connector because you will cause the inner liner to separate from the outer.

That gray fuel line is junk, don't put it on anything.

As mentioned, go to the parts store and get some automotive fuel line. It's not approved for marine use, but as long as it's not in an enclosed bilge there won't be a problem.

You can reuse the primer as long as it works, the factory clamps might be crimped, but you can cut them and use hose clamps.

I'm glad Bullet101 mentioned it, my fuel line stays connected all the time and during the summer I noticed expansion in the tank before my trouble started and the same thing probably happened in my hose that caused my problem. C.C members are the best.

One of the problems with the automotive fuel line is that it tends to kink and restrict the fuel flow.This happens very easily when the motor is constantly turning back and forth. It also does not like the sun either. After a few months in the sun, it will start to get mushy on the outside and work it's way inward. Not to mention, it's illegal for me to install it.

I forgot to mention. If you have any Mercury gray fuel line with red letters, you better get rid of it immediately. If the inner liner hasn't separated, it isn't going to be long. A lot of people think that the problem is ethanol in the fuel but it's not, the majority of the time. The problem is with the adhesive that is used to bond the inner and outer liners together. Has anyone of you guys ever spilled gas on your carpet? If you have, you know what petroleum does to the glue. It turns it to mush and your carpet comes up. That s what is happening to a lot of fuel lines. That and people not paying attention when they push it over a primer bulb or fuel connector.
