We have mighty fine Bluegill fishing right here in south Alabama.
If you could go fishing anywhere in the USA... where would it be?
I'd like to go to California., there's some big Bluegills over there.

South Alabama to fish with you! They are some giants in California ! But southern hospitality be hard to find out their!
We will go this spring, when the days are nice, warmer and the gills are hungry.
Got any good crappie fishing up your way?
Lake Havasu (CA/AZ) or Lake San Vicente (CA)
Cali hospitality - nor sure how many people I've offered to take fishing at Lake Perris (for free!).
Ledhed I’m sure your a gem! Lots a great folk all over once you get to meet em!
I will be ready....
Saint Johns is where I would like to go.
I fished south Alabama last month, Leon Brooks Hines, can't wait to get back there.
I grew up close to that lake, I'd love to go back down there too.
Alaska.
LedHead, Once I win the lottery so I can afford to do it, I'll take you up on your offer. Grew up in Barstow and always heard of the great fishing over on the Colorado River, and down at Lake Parris, but in all the years there, I just never got the opertunity to go...
that's a tough one ….but cali would be on the map
I always said I would drive anywhere to catch some nice bluegills, but.... the lake in CA is over 2000 miles from here.
That's over 30-hours plus motels and fuel just to get there, and then the return trip home.
If I were only 35-years old.....
There's some dinner-plate size coppernose where I fish in south Bama.... guess I will just have to be happy here.
Re: “Alaska”: While the bluegill fishing might not be the best, there are others species and scenery to help me get over it. lol
Southern California with Sonny, Havasu for the world record shells, and probably right here where I live on Lake Barkley. We've got some really nice redear in here, I've caught a few 2lbers.
I’ve never been to Lake Perris....nor Lake Havasu......but have been reading about them at length for a couple of decades. There is no better bluegill fishing in public waters than Lake Perris......with maybe some of the other lakes out there. As for shell cracker nothing comes close to Lake Havasu.......the invasive quagga mussel is what turns them into giants and they are thriving. You have Richmond Mill Lake in NC but it is highly managed and fed by automatic feeders. You can fish it at a very high cost.....but I’m not sure that it is better than Lake Perris even with all the money they spend. I’ve fished Barkley.....Dale Hollow....Center Hill.......and some private lakes in TN. All produce nice shell cracker.....but don’t come close to what is in Havasu. I fish a lake in TN where catches of a 100 shell cracker a day are common with many at the 12 inch mark......don’t even come close to Havasu. But we all can only fish the waters we have and must take what they give us. While I would love to go to both places it’s just not in the cards for me. I’ll just have to settle for 10-12 inch shell cracker with an XUL rod.

High school buddy flew out in April last year - roundtrip to LA from Florida was $300. Fished a week and caught some nice 10s and 1nd 11s....
Lake Havasu has big Northern and hybrid Bluegills too. The problem is planning a fishing trip around the heat or the wind!

I am headed back to Havasu next month; I've never fished this lake so early. However, when we were there in 2016, our guide said that April was the prime month to catch good numbers of redear. Our trip in May was excellent, but with his advice, we moved up a month to see if it's really better. Have any of you fished Lake Havasu for bream in the early spring?
I wish we had some Coppernose here in SW TN. We do have some nice RED EARS!
I am in AK working and have been since Dec 16. Going back to TN tomorrow night. I have really missed my TN white trash life and ready to get back to it. I have asked and most here do not know what a crappie is. I am pretty sure there are none this far north....I am going back to garden and crappie catch hopefully, not fish.
I’ve been on trout all week.....no crappie or bluegill posts for me. They put some good ones in this year. It’s freaking addictive to catch those things!

Agreed. Trout are awesome on UL tackle. There's a local pond stocked with rainbows. I've been giving the Tict Ice Cube a workout! :biggrin
There's a blue heron that stands behind me when I fish. I always give him at least a trout or two. (Gave him four one day!) ;)
