I am following, I have a fox squirrel tail on my tying desk right now and need to do something with it, but have never tied one up.
Once upon a time I tied kip tail hair flies for myself and friends on a regular basis. Each Fall I would harvest a few limb chickens for their meat and their bushy tails. I have no more Grey Squirrel tail flies left from those days, but did find a Fox Squirrel Tail Fly I tied and used quite frequently in Springtime muddy water situations. Bright Orange Head, black thread, 1/16 oz lead head. I put some fine glitter in my windings to customize my ties so they would stand out from the other store bought baits in my fly boxes. Hope this helps and sorry for the presentation as my fly tying vise and desk are a thing of the past, unfortunately.

Knockout color combo for smallmouth where I lived in TN. I tied some very similar. Nice jig.
I usually keep my thread collars as small as I can and use red also. Also tie some just a bit shorter for the days when they are tentative and the taps turn to bites. The one in the pic is a good starting point. Nice tie Stan.
Almost all my hair thread neck jigs get Red thread. I see that as acting like gills and everyone using them seems to have good luck! I also don't usually add flash to that kind of jig, but I do add one strip of Red Danville Floss which is much like thread! I see that as maybe an injury to the jig and a blood trail?

Those are two nice jigs. I have seen other jigs with the red strip, I though that was just the tag end of the tying thread. (Shows how little I know). Where do you get the red Danville floss? Thanks for the information, it is much appreciated.
You can get it from most shops that carry Danville thread, like JS Fly Fishing Danville 4 Strand Rayon Floss | J. Stockard Fly Fishing or even eBay or Amazon. I also have more than I will use here, just don't advertise it because I don't have a big supply in stock. It come kind of unusual way from thread, they have it is 2 strand or 4 strand spools. For our use it doesn't matter which we buy, just make sure it's a good size like 210 Denier or larger.Quote:

Country Backroads have proved roadkill prizes -- Fox tails have a bright Orange underneath -- 90% is orange with black hair tips, The hair is long and soft and easy to work with

An O'l trapper past how he used this method to recover his traps which became tainted
Said if one cold get a lot of wood ash enough to totally spread an cover the la pew item
then allow it to set for at least a day or two for absorption one should be able to recover ones traps and or cape
