Anything with the red spot on the gills works for me. I have real good luck with smelt sticks, too. I use the smaller size in the perch color. Here's some from last winter.Attachment 324425Attachment 324426
How's the ice up that way?
I plan on checking out the ice tomorrow...I spent the night in the UP last night so I could look at a truck for sale in Red River,The guy I bought the truck from said there's not much safe ice yet...

Yes it was Rapid River sorry it's been a long day
Rapid River was just a few miles from where I lived! I probably know who you bought it from.....it’s a small world up there and everyone knows everyone there. My brother lives in Rapid River still.

I rarely use anything but a Hali or Smelt Stick for ice fishing panfish. I use a 4' Ice Blue rod and tight line, watching the rod tip and the line to see the bites. Most times I tip with spikes.
When Gander Mountain had their going out of business sale, my son loaded up on Hali’s, looking back I wish I would have too. It was a great price!

If memory serves me, the most Hali jigs I've ever seen in one location was a convenience store in Lake City. The place is between m55 and m42 on the East side of the road.
I'm thinking that is the Marathon station next door to the Coffee Cup Diner. Or the Party Store on the other side. FYI, the Coffee Cup has an awesome omelet, The Porker. 5 eggs and all kinds of goodies inside plus sausage gravy poured over the top.
I bought my share of Halis when Gander went bankrupt. Got plenty of extra hooks, too.
Way, WAY back, I made my own..at least it was my version. Used small Swedish pimples, or small Kastmasters, for the top, and all sorts of Rat Finkees hanging below. Two inches of mono..your choice on # test..for the swing.
Give it a try.
While at Cabelas yesterday I had to see what they had, they sure got a hefty price on them, really wishing ida bought more at Ganders bankruptcy sale.

I was in Cadillac a few years ago and wanted a certain color Hali and the only place I knew of that had it was Pilgrims Village. I think I paid over $6.00 for that thing, 'bout made me cry. $6.00 is a weeks groceries for a bargain shopper like me.
I found some 2" Hali's I had used jigging Saginaw river even had some spare chain's, so I put chains on a couple of small gold kastmaster's I have...
Pilgrims did tend to be high priced. I always stopped at the one one the corner of M55 and M115 but they closed the last I knew. I guess you can charge what you want when you are the only game in town
That one was Schafers. That's where I went, too.
