HR “Tour Guide”
Venturing out of comfort zone some. Making a trip to High Rock Tuesday. Coming from GSO so planning to stop on 8 at Mimi’s for bait and putting in at Southmont Public ramp. From prior posts I’ve read about thrives at some ramps, any issues/warnings about Southmont?
And should we use short or long fuses on our dynamite?lol
Thanks.

Southmont is an OK ramp, the last time I was there there was a lot of trash and junk floating around the dock but that was a few weeks ago, There is another ramp on the other side of Southmont off Holloway church rd. called Buddle Creek. You can always try that one if Southmont does,nt look good enough. I,m thinking about launching off Tuesday myself. Anyways,, enjoy your trip.

If you put in at Buddle Creek you may be trapped in Abotts Creek depending on the water level or the size of your boat.

We’ll be in 17’ Clearwater Skiff with no top. Should be able get under most bridges. If ya see us say Hi.

I was at Southmont Saturday and they were having a striper tournament and the ramps were clear. Dress warm because it's supposed to get cool tonight. Good luck..

Water is high, and you WILL NOT get under any of the bridges unless they all of a sudden pull a lot of water.
Its clear enough now to make it "fishable".

Take a look at: Lake Levels – Cube Hydro Carolinas and High Rock Lake Information
These give you some info on lake levels. I have a Lund which requires HR to be around 1.4 feet below pool (.75 right now) to get under the Abbots Creek or Flat Swamp (railroad) bridges. Water color and debris on the save High Rock site don’t seem to be working.

Thanks for the intel. One good thing about high water I guess is don’t hafta worry certain boats coming through at Mach 2 nearly plowingbya and throwing water everywhere. Some things I remember from LKN days at Hwy 150 bridge.

I like the technical and science stuff but still believe the best time to fish is when I can.

Well after a week dealing with a left middle ear infection, the day to HR got canceled. Had to get an appt with ENT, since none opened till 9am, and trying to get in ASAP, finally got an appointment but it was 10:30 by then. We’ll get another shot. Thanks to all for the intel.
