If i can help in anyway let me know. i can give a good description of the area and alternate camping areas. Maybe get a guest speaker. There is a FB site that is huge down this way that has lots of pull with the locals and sporting stores. Everyone should check it out. BDL Outdoors. could really get behind this and make it as big as you all would want it.
Killah is the long time friend that I went down there with this past weekend. BDL is Big Daddy Lawler. The people at the park said he was one of their biggest supporters. They said he’d be glad to promote the event, so Slab if you want that done I’ll try to find out how to get you in touch with him. The way that made it sound, this camp could get huge with lots of free publicity.
This post is for Brad. Roland Cooper State Park, Phone number 1-334-682-4838. Ask for Paul or Lorie. they have a block of cabins that they are holding for 7 days, so everyone that is planning to come needs to make there plans in the next 7 days and make reservations. This number is also for the campground. The dates are March 7,8,9. Seems like there is going to be a lot of activities going on that weekend and we could end up with a few new members. It will be good to meet some of our older members from down south and the new members that live down that way. See everyone in March if the good Lord is willing and the creeks don't rise.
For the guys needing cabins, you need to book quickly. The original week was booked by bass fisherman that are fishing a big tournament. Getting close to spring break for families , I didn't count but there are roughly 40-50 RV spots there. But Miller's Ferry campground is about 10-15 minutes from there. It's a COE campground and has boat docks. Like Fur said this place has everything except docks to shoot and deep water rocks. Travis Hudson is a local legend there that might speak especially if anyone on here knows him. Big daddy Lawler would probably speak or perhaps get Travis too. I know some fishery biologists but most of the fishery biologist in the state no very lil about crappie. Any other suggestions?
OK...Cray and I have campsite 22 at Roland Cooper State Park reserved for the nights of Mar. 7, 8, and 9. See you guys there.
you know this aint far away at all good times ahead i can travel down fer the day
Things have changed and me and Cray, and Partsman1 will not be there. Maybe next time.
G is being nice. Roland Cooper state park put the screws to him on his camp site. I AM going to call them about it. It ticks me off that they've done what they've done. Reserving a pull through spot, then changing to a non pull through because they're working on the pull through spots. They should have known in November, when G made his reservations that they would be working on the spots in March. I can assure you that they knew in November that they would be working in March. It's the government, they don't work on a fast schedule.
So, I have verified with a friend, that there is another camp ground 10-15 minutes away. It's Millers Ferry Corp of Engineers campground. He said the spots are nicer than the Roland Cooper camper spots, they just don't have a sewer hookup. You'll have to pump your sewage at their pumping station before you leave.

I'm sorry all this happened. I have no control over it but I still feel responsible.
Its ok, Its not your fault Brad....we will see you guys another time. The way Dr. appointments and Dentist appointments have been going for me and Charlie its probably better anyway.
So Roland Cooper still the gathering place and Miller's Ferry just another option?
Yes
I live in Camden. If I can answer any questions, give me a shout.

Good deal, thanks.
Just a little over 2 weeks away. We have a speaker secured for Saturday. A fisheries biologist who did his thesis on Shad is scheduled to talk. Crappie follow shad, so I think he'll have some great information.
Can we get a roll call of those who are attending and also what days you'll be there?
Mid day Friday thru Saturday.
I am not a member of your organization but have plans to be there for the event.
well then, I feel welcomed already. we will be there March 7 - 9 at RCSP. hope to meet some of you folks. thanks
anyone have any recent fishing reports for Millers Ferry
thanks.
If I can, I would like to come down and meet all you celebrities on here too. I live about an hour away. Either Friday night or Saturday day.
I spoke with a lady who fishes and lives on that body of water and she said the fishing has been real sketchy. They moved in shallow then back out to the deep when the cold weather hit and its been back and forth. Nothing consistent. this has been two weeks ago or better. water is not real clear in the delta therefore I don't expect it to be clear in the Alabama at Millers Ferry. I just traveled to Ohio last weekend to see grandchildren and we crossed several major rivers, Ohio, Coosa, Tennessee, Alabama, etc. All were out of the banks. The northern rivers have not started to drain off so we down south have that to look forward to. More rain on the way this week and weekend. I have never caught a fish with dust on his back though therefore, I plan on getting my boat wet this weekend.

Millers Ferry is the body of what I was refering to. I am not a writer for sure.
I live in the Mobile Area and will be coming up early on the 7th to start pre fishing. Hope to meet some or all of you guys.
thought this may interest some of you. Millers Ferry Crappie report for this time last year.

Ill be there Friday evening and Saturday for sure. Ill be staying at Millers Ferry and could probably use some contact information about times and meeting places
For those of you who keep up with the River stages, I am attaching the below link for you to review. We may be in for some bad water, Tide and trash during the planning March 7-9 trip.

this will keep you up to speed.
Albert, I just got off the phone with a friend that lives down that way about the upcoming water levels. What is your gut feeling about fishing for the event? I don't want to cancel unless we absolutely need to but I don't want everyone to get there and the river be unfishable either. Predicted crest is mid week, this week with gradual daily drops. That tells me that the river will be fishable but you'd know more about that than I do. What are your thoughts?
Lets watch until the weekend. We are expecting rain all week down here and maybe MF also. I will keep my eye on it and let you know how the week progresses. My fear is that we get a lot of rain and they release a lot of water up north that makes it down here. the river here gets so much trash in it that it makes safe boating and fishing tough. I will keep you posted though.
Oh, they're releasing a tremendous amount of water up north. The Coosa is flooded out.
I just talked with the State Park people. Cancellations only have to be made 24 hours ahead of time so there's no rush on that. I have a cabin reserved and John Doe has a cabin reserved. I had a list of folks that were staying with me in my cabin.
If anyone who was planning on going, has changed their minds, we need to know ASAP. Thanks.
I have cabins 4 and 5 rented. I have some friends going with to do some bass fishing etc.
Albert unless something unforeseen happens, I’m planning on being there.
No change in my plans. I will be there all day thursday through sat. afternoon.
I'm still planning on coming but I have a 4 hour drive and would hate to show up and the water be to bad to fish. We got hammered with water here in the north west we have numerous neighbor hoods still under water and from what I've read Pickwick is the highest it's been since 1897 I guess in hindsight it would have been better towards the end of March for our shindig.
