I've been group texting with several of our members for the past day about planning a trip to Millers Ferry in late March of 2019. After fall camp several of us discussed trying to move the camps around to give the south AL guys a shorter drive in hopes that it would motivate more folks to attend.
What say the group? Millers Ferry in the spring?

Well, there are several of us who are already going to Millers Ferry in March so that's how this came up. We had also kicked around doing Eufaula for fall camp to change things up. How's that sound? or we can do a vote. Makes no difference to me. I know lodging is minimal at Millers Ferry but Camden isn't far away. Surely they have a decent enough motel or hotel to stay in. Heck I might can find a hunting club that would rent us a house but that is during turkey season, or at least I think it is.Quote:

Millers Ferry is good with me count me in that's about a 4 hour drive from north west Alabama.
Doesn't matter. Just worked there before. Not Much going on there. But I have a friend from there. We may show up for a day.

Dates.
Tentative dates are Thursday, Friday and Saturday March 22-24. Some of us will be there the 22nd by noon to fish that afternoon. That is dependent upon lodging availability for those dates. We'll know more tomorrow.

I can probably make that one and bring a few friends.
Camping and fishing....fellowship....meeting and making new friends..... exchanging fishing tips and info...usually a couple of group cook outs....door prizes etc. Good times with good folks.Quote:

There's some slabs down there, never fished it but seen some nice pictures from that area. Lots of campgrounds but that's about it. Unfortunately I've got plans for that week and want be able to make this one. Wish I could sound like a great trip.

Jammilstid’s son with their two personal best crappie to date, caught yesterday on Millers Ferry. The cold front made catching a real challenge for our group but as you can see there are some nice un’s in the river. One plus is there is terrain here for people to fish any method they want to use. Lots
of structure, deep creek channels, flats, main river points. About anything you could want except boat docks. There’s also a good population of black and white crappie.

The cabins have long been booked for the week originally talked and posted about. The new dates for this gathering are March 7-9 on Millers Ferry at Roland Cooper State Park. We will have lunch on Saturday and hopefully some sort of presentation by a guide, biologist, something. It's way too early to start a sign up sheet for what to bring so we can wait on that.
G, there are RV spots there at the park.
How many will need a cabin to stay in?

For the guys needing cabins, you need to book quickly. The original week was booked by bass fisherman that are fishing a big tournament. Getting close to spring break for families , I didn't count but there are roughly 40-50 RV spots there. But Miller's Ferry campground is about 10-15 minutes from there. It's a COE campground and has boat docks. Like Fur said this place has everything except docks to shoot and deep water rocks. Travis Hudson is a local legend there that might speak especially if anyone on here knows him. Big daddy Lawler would probably speak or perhaps get Travis too. I know some fishery biologists but most of the fishery biologist in the state no very lil about crappie. Any other suggestions?
Reserved a cabin just now. Furflyin sent them a note asking to hold five of the bigger cabins so they are expecting us. Their number is 334-682-4838.
