Dang fickle fall crappie

I finally found a couple of docks on the Big G that were loaded with crappie om Saturday. I didn’t catch that many Saturday but I got a bunch quick spit crappie bites. We went in yesterday afternoon armed for dock shooting and we didn’t get a crappie bite all evening. I did catch some big bluegill off one dock yesterday where the crappie were Saturday

I reckon the dang things moved on me. We had a west wind Saturday and an east wind yesterday so that may have made a difference. Plus the FLW is in town and apparently every one of them hits every dock on the lake

Keep at it ,they are probably there just deeper under the dock. They are fast in the fall. You will miss a lot because of that. Full moon makes it worse to.

Full moon kills the day bite up here, during fall!

In my experience it just makes them short strike.

10-4 thanks. I even fished some minnows on a slip float under the dock and they were hitting them and letting go before I could even react. The float would go under and back up in about a 1/10th of a second.

That's typical of a full moon. They are fast for some reason. I can't explain it but I've seen it to many times

The moon isn't coming up until well after dark, which makes me wonder why the moon has that much effect on the bite? Just thinking out loud, not doubting what y'all are saying but there's lots of things I don't understand. LOL

I hate full moons. Fish feed at night and short strike during day. Fur I had rather have the big bream you should have stayed and loaded boat if you could have. Might be bream pulling your float under and letting it go. Try smaller hook

How deep of water were the docks in you were shooting?

Front edge about 9' deep on the one we got the most bites on. The other was 12' on the front edge. I need to try some more shallow too.

Try em Sunday I think they just got tight lipped. The must have heard about the aliens coming to town. Bad for us good for the city.

I've always been told the fish feed all night with that full moon and just not that hungry during the day. ?

With all due respect and admitting my ignorance of how the bite is(or might be) in NE Alabama... I know that the crappies are in much deeper water here in North Carolina right now. I'm talking about 20 feet of water plus on deep creek channels. Here, the crappie will remain in deep water through the month of January... and it's into February before they start making their transition into shallower coves and creek arms. Perhaps you should give the much deeper water a try... after all you have little to loose and much more to gain in your trying. Good luck to you.

K they are up furflyin is a green horn to fall fishing. He as only shot dock a few times. I'm going to take him soon and put him on a few. His lake isn't the best fall fishing around here.

Special K, thanks for the advice. I'm working too hard at this to fail. I'll eventually figure it out. I've scanned every creek channel I've fished and I'm not finding them. There is not a whole lot of 20 FOW on Guntersville unless you're in the river channel and the water out there, unless the wind is dead calm, is like fishing in the gulf, or a washing machine.

The lake is old and deep structure to hold fish down on my end of the lake is mostly gone. TVA has a 15 page document with an absurd amount of hoops to jump through for anyone to legally put out brush piles, etc... Fortunately my reading comprehension skills are poor. :dono

Catching quite a few in 2-8 fow holding tite to structure! Monkey milk and blue ice and a few other good colors with “G” sauce working great for me!

Keep after em they are out their! Oh and me no like bridges either! Too many other places that’s peaceful and very productive !

You get more than 50 yards from a bridge and it's not. Even when I go at night, cawhop, cawhop, cawhop as the cars go across. I own an 18 wheeler trailer repair shop. I hear noise ALL day long, 5 days a week. I am not going to listen to noise while I fish. I even tried fishing under the bridges with ear plugs and still don't enjoy it. I like to catch crappie, but fishing for me is as much about having peace and quiet while spending time with my son or friends as it is about catching them.

Looking good Mitch! I can drive north for 45 minutes to get to structure, I just wish I could find some down here 15 minutes from the house......

I fished Eufaula three times and Martin once the past month. Martin is a different animal to me altogether given it’s a deep lake in relation to the other water I fish regularly. Having said that, I have found crappie in Eufaula on brush and stumps near creek channels. Early, they seem to suspend 7-8 feet over the structure in 15-18 feet deep. On Martin we found fish tight to structure in deeper water - 12-15 feet. They didn’t bite near as good on the martin trip but I attribute that to the front that was passing through at the time.

I am with coach on this one. With a full moon believe they feed all night. Hate try to night fish when a full moon is out makes some tough fishing.

My dear sweet Granny who passed away many years ago use to tell me that when she'd take me fishing. I think I got my love of fishing from her.

Most of the time that east -west is true but I've had some amazing days with a east wind.
