There's a lot of good advice here. I particularly took note at the statement Doug's butcher said to him about "never letting a knife go dull". Check it out:

Good tips. Thanks for sharing.
I like it,-thanks!
good info ---- thanks
How many of you use the shark blade? Always looking to improve my filleting skill.
Don't use the "Shark", but do use the Berkley Slim blades in my Mr Twister Electric Fisherman :

Good video, thanks for sharing.
great video, thank you for the info. A dull knife will cut you faster than a sharp one cause you have to apply more pressure to cut, greater chance of blade slipping and getting you...I love sharp knives. And I guess I'm cheap as I use a spoon to scale any fish I don't fillet. Put the food holding side down and work from the tail to the head. Scales slide up on the back of the spoon instead of flying all over the place. hope this helps someone.
A good idea using the box thanks for the tip
Lots of good ideas and tips, I never thought of using a apron before to keep your clothes clean. And a designated storage box is very smart!
Thanks Slab and Doug!
“The best work results are when both ends of a tools handle, operator and blade, are kept sharp.” Good post, thanks.
good ideas thanks. but on occasion I do scale a few crappie when I feel like baking them and a spoon does a great job. Plus ole mac likes his fins and tales to eat.
I use a blue vinyl apron when cleaning at fish stations. Not so much at my home station. Mine has a pocket in the front for gear. When cleaning 20 plus salmon at a wack, I wouldn't go near the fish stations without it.
Great video as always Doug. I'll be swapping my blades for those.
Yep hdhntr, Momma likes hers and mine on the fins and tails fried crisp.
great video packed full of great tips. thanks for sharring
Good video, thanks for sharing. I also use the shark blade and like it. When it gets dull, I just replace it.
My question is, how many of you sharpen your serrated blades and what do you use and how do you do it?
