Long Crappie Nets

Looking to invest in a long handled net for when I spider rig with 16ft poles or even making it easier to net fish for the guy in the back of the boat. I’m honestly not sure what is even available on the market but I have looked at the following few.

— Jenko Big T Duralite
— Ego S2 Slider

I don’t have a ton of room so the more compact, ease of use, durability, etc are all important factors. Don’t plan on mounting a net holder. Just keep it on the floor of the boat. Pros and cons for any suggestions is much appreciated!

Whatever/whichever one you get .... even if it says it "floats" .... I'd tie wrap a section of pool noodle to the outer handle segment, just to be "sure" it'll float if it's ever blown/knocked/dropped overboard. :twocents

Can't beat those pool noodles! Soooo many great uses. :)

No doubt... Because they ain’t cheap!

I use the Jenko Big T. I fish by myself a lot and i can handle that net with one hand. I haven't had any issues with it.

I have had several nets and built some with painters poles in my past.
But the best net on the market is the Jenko net, period. Money very well spent.

I have the Ego Reach. The "ghost" rubber nets make a huge difference.

Ego2 slider is a good net for pulling cranks, long lining or planer boards when you have an extra hand in the boat, but they are to heavy to control fishing off the front of the boat. Ego Reach is pretty good, not nearly as heavy, only draw back is it only extends to 8 foot 6 inches.

If I was spinder rigging, I would use a "Japanese telescopic landing net". They have us beat hands down.

I see tons of guys with nets extended out the front of their boat, laying on the deck, in the way, or standing up. The Japanese nets telescope down to 2 feet or less, the hoops fold for storage, and some of them go out over 21 feet! They are light weight and extend with one hand using gravity. When you net the fish, telescope it back in. No need to lift it up and over rods.

OGK is one brand.

Exactly what I was wondering on the EGO S2! Think it’s around 3lb as to where the Jenko Big T is 1lb.

been thinking about getting a long handle net also --- as of now the Jenko net is my top choice ($99) --- will continue to follow this thread

I’ve been using an Ego Slider for a lot of years. Their service is great....sent me a new handle even though the net was way out of warranty. I like it but it is a little heavy for one hand use.....I think there are much lighter ones out there.

Do you have a website to find these or video link to see em in action? I like the concept of extending and retracting with one hand vs twisting or hitting buttons. OGK is out of stock on their webpage

Don’t really know. I’ve been eyeing these things for several years now. I’m just going to have to buy one and see how they do. Here is a whole page of them. They are not cheap.

They have several companies that make them. Many guys net 20 and 30lb cats and carp.

You can change the netting out with rubber if you would like. They are used on piers or areas where you cannot get close to the water but would work great for spider rigging.

That’s the issue I was finding. I did find this link and they accept PayPal. How long would you want for spider rigging? What’s the normal length? Also, how do you change the netting to a rubber mesh?

I don't understand how netting a fish could mess up the gills.

Contact Luke on the "Cats and Carp" YouTube channel. He lived in Japan for 2 years and was there this summer. He can tell you where to get them. I learned of the nets from him and his channel.

Never been to Japan but have ordered thousands of dollars worth of gear from there. There are a couple of stores I use that if you want I can send you the link and if they don’t have what you want they can more than likely get it. I just ordered this one. Keep in mind stuff is not cheap there.

I was looking at this one as well. Did u get the rubber mesh? Do u happen to know how long it’s full extension is? Where did u order bc I’m curious on the price as well.

I lived there for a year. Very purposely built stuff!

I will get the rubber mesh...I have an inquiry in about it now. The net extends to 2.97 meters...almost 10 feet. It sells for 110 bucks plus shipping...which will be around 28 bucks or so. What sold me on this one was the lifting of the carp. But I’m sure the other ones are same quality also. Oh yes. I wish I had known about JDM gear the 21 years I fished the Red Sea and Persian Gulf...those GT’s could flat tear up some equipment....LOL. I would love to go to Japan now and hook up with one of their UL Master fisherman and fish with them.

Can u PM me or update this thread when u find out about the rubber mesh. I wondered if you could replace the head with one of the US brands (Jenko, Ego, etc). Not sure if they are 1/2” stud or not.

Tried quite a few long nets in the last five years. Even the new model from jenko. Personally, I don’t care much for any of them. Had problems with the handles on them sticking, locking up, and with the jenko, breaking. Every company replaced the nets with great customer support. May look at the Japanese ones in the future. Using the jenko now.

At this point I’m pretty much between the Japanese one Alaphahawk listed a few posts earlier and the Jenko Big T. I just wanna make sure I have a rubber mesh head. I like the telescopic concept of the Japanese vs the Jenko bc A) the size B) and no twist locking.

Get an older style net where the handle is about 1" and insert broom stick. Works all the time for me

Many times I will fish from a steep bank. I first went the long net route about 8 years back I guess with the Ego Slider. As you say the handle stuck after a couple of years but they were great and sent me a new one out. While it is still performing it is somewhat sticky. Plus as I have a few more years on me it has gotten a little more heavy than I would like. The net I ordered from Japan will be here by Friday. I will give a review and let those know who may want to go down this road how the net performs.

Plat is sending me a rubber replacement net with the net. Of course I had to pay for it. They did not give me any specs but the net will be here no later than Friday and I will let you know the measurements of the hoop size. I’m sure one could find a rubber net the same size here. The Prox replacement rubber net is rubber-silicone. It cost about 25 bucks just for the net portion. I have seen some replacement rubber nets on eBay for 8 bucks in the smaller sizes. Will give a thorough review of the net when I get it.
