Dwayne I have a question for ya, "About how many pounds of shrimp fit in a five gallon bucket"?
"gene"
I haven't weighed it before but I know 25 pounds is roughly 3/4 of a five gallon bucket so I would guess roughly 35 pounds. I'll try to remember to weigh it next time.

I wanted to know what size net??? I figured it was 3/8 mesh.. I have a 5 ft for Shad, I need to use it more
Thanks pal, that's a real good mess for sure.
"gene"
I use a 7 foot 5/8 mesh. The 5/8 lets the smaller shrimp fall through.

Dwayne, could you bring your cast net to D'Arbonne and give me and my brothers-in-law a lesson in how to use it? We tried it Saturday morning and succeeded in just looking foolish.
Sure or I can just show you with yours.

Nice catch D. When's da boil?
Pound wise it will be the same, now if you are talking numbers you are correct. Smaller size means more numbers of shrimp.

The smaller shrimp will weigh more. The large shrimp have more head which takes up more area. HTH
[QUOTE=jig rig;3712583]I may be wrong but I disagree with you. I stick to my statement. A pound of 16/20 shrimp will weigh the same as a pound of 30 count shrimp but you will get almost twice (numbers) as many in the 30 count. I am talking about heads on shrimp.

PPG was asking about volume to pound. Your stating pound to pound.
I've never bought or caught shrimp by the bucket. I always buy pounds. I have no idea about size to pounds or volume. Just a plain question, "about how many pounds of shrimp in a bucket".
I just found this on line. It seems that it doesn't matter what size shrimp you get, the head is 35% and the rest of the peel is 15% for a total of 50%.
Shrimp yield: When buying heads-on shrimp remember that removing the heads will decrease total weight by 35%. When the shell is removed weight decreases by another 15%. For example, 100 pounds of heads-on shrimp will result in 65 pounds of heads-off shrimp. When shells are removed 50 pounds of shrimp flesh is the result.
Let catch some sac-au-lait instead.

Then again, if someone catches some shrimp I can cook them and eat them....after we catch the sacalait.

Dwayne is this a WMA that you are throwing te castnet on? I was just courious as to why only 1 bucket of shrimp also is that per person or per boat?
Yes it is and the limit is 1 bucket per day per vessel. Now at Rockefeller it is 25 pounds per day per vessel which is about 3/4 of a 5 gallon bucket.

That is the plan for Darbonne if I can get some people to help me peel them up there.

I used to know how to peel shrimp. Not sure if I remember now that I'm a hillbilly.
