CONDOLENCES to the families involved. :pray
Lake Monroe can be nasty when the wind picks up.
Yes, all the shallow FL lakes seems to get nasty quick with some wind.
Thoughts & prayers to the family !! I surely wouldn't want it to happen to anyone but hope all the crappie.com guys made it home safe yesterday.
I scratch my head sometimes.... Saw an elderly man and woman Saturday in what looked like a 12 Jon..... He was standing and she had his hand for balance.... You guessed it NO PFD! That wind ain't nothing play with. So sad! So useless! Prayers for the family and friends...
Man rescued during search for missing boaters on Lake Monroe
Looks like in the video, that the survivor had a PFD on.
Slab and BillBob probably saw this boat while the men were fishing.
Seems like they found the body about 2 miles west from the enterprise ramp.
Very sad news...my heart really dropped when 1st reading the title because before Skeet & myself came in Saturday, we could barely make out someone yelling from the enterprise area, just as a boat was heading into the ramp. Thought the boat going in had something like a fish stringer over the side or something & somebody was trying to let him know. However, it continued when the boat reached the ramp & we were just about to pull rods & check it out when another boat in same area headed over & we heard the yelling stop...either way a tragedy for Monday...have seen manatees out there recently that could turn over a small craft on plane very easily, another sad reminder to be careful out there...prayers for the family
thought and prayers to all involved in this tragic event. Please guys, keep an eye on the weather. It does turn fast! There is always tomorrow ... if you play it safe today.
I knew something happened. Lake Monroe Park was closed and full of 1st responders when I came home.

Prayers for the friends and family.
Very sad for sure but I'm not surprised that it happened, yesterday the ole girl was about as rough as it gets. After parting ways with Slab and BillBob I headed back out and took a wave over the bow before I could clear the bridge fenders. That was all it took for me to ignore the slow zone, hammer the throttle down and turn back.
Prayers for family and friends of this poor soul and I hope all Crappie.com members are safe and accounted for.
I looked but didn't see, have they released a name yet?
I'm glad to see y'all check in.... relief to see your replys
Volusia deputies locate body of DeLand man missing in Lake Monroe - News - Daytona Beach News-Journal Online - Daytona Beach, FL
Article includes names of two individuals and a short video of the rescue.
The survivor was not wearing a PFD, the rescue officer who jumped in the water, took a PFD to the survivor.
Sad story!
That lake can get really nasty fast from the winds, many times i could not wait to get to back to the ramp in bad weather out there. i wonder what size boat it was. thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends. very sad.
Prayers for the families involved. So sad. It only takes a couple seconds to put on your life jacket. Do it for your family it might stop them from having to go threw this.

Terrible! Praying for the family. We are all focused on catching. this is a reminder that this is dangerous environment we play in. I noticed it was said they left at 8pm. So they were night fishing. Also from the video that looks to be at least a 16’ fiberglass boat which should handle some rough water. Hopefully they didn’t hit something while running. Sad day.
Sad ending to this one. A very stark reminder of how bad Monroe gets at times.
While my boat is only a 14fter, I do know what it can and cannot handle very well and have been out there on days most of you would've turned around.
Because of that I've purposefully ran to the wrong ramp on more than one occasion as conditions deteriorated to let a smaller craft follow behind. I know I have saved at least one individuals life with something as simple as burning an extra gallon or two of fuel, and that individual later thanked me with the words "I dont want to know if I would've made it or not". (A 12ft john boat does not belong in 4ft seas)
I do not condone this unless you are fully aware of both your capabilties AND what your vessel can handle in regards to rough weather.
I certainly feel bad for them fellas, at 72 & 73 yrs old I definitely would not have been there at night without a PFD ON. I can only imagine how long it must have felt like
clinging to the bow of that boat all night long and wondering where you buddy was. Terrible outcome for sure.
The news finally had the survivor was on the news telling his story. A wave filled the boat with water and it sank. I tried to find the clip online but had no luck finding it yet. He said his friend started to drift away from the boat and yelled back to him to stay with the boat. (good advice) He tied a rope to the boat to make a seat and even fell asleep a couple times during the nite. Very sad story, his friend died doing what he loved...fishing.
Definitely sad ending for them, can't imagine it myself. They had been friends since the 60's & served in Vietnam together.
