I know this has bee on the board before but I forgot the results
ive been using Cabelas 3 bank chargers for a long time = the only reason was
the life time warranty because the chargers would not last but around a year but now
the life time warranty has been stopped and they only have a 90 day warranty and when
my last Cabelas charger blows up just wondering what would be a good one to buy that
will last == thanks for any input Remus
I use the old fashion charger because I don't trust the on board ones

I use the precision chargers, so far so good
I've used the Bass Pro version, right now two two bank. They've been on the boat for 5-6 years at least
Like you Remus, I went through a bunch of chargers in the ole Kenner. Finally, I decided you get what you pay for and bought a Guest. They are about twice the price of the Cabelas (Pro Mariner) but my first Guest 3521 is still in the boat going strong even after 12+ years of service. I have since bought another boat and it came with a Pro Mariner. One of the first accessories I bought for it was a 4 bank Minn-Kota Precision charger for it (Guest doesn't make a 4 bank). 2 years now and he MK is still working great.
The PM was sold and made a small down payment on the MK.
Bottom line from my experience.....
1. You get what you pay for
2. Dead batteries on the water will ruin a good fishing trip

I too have the MK chargers. First 2 bank developed an issue, called minnkota, gave them the serial number, they warranty it. I sent confirmation I shipped the old unit, and they shipped the new unit. 3 years later and no issues. I like it so well I bought a single bank for the starting battery.

I had the Bass Pro as original equipment on my 2001 Tracker. It was still working a couple of years ago when Gerald C bought it. Far as I know it is still working. 18 years and they are not as expensive as some.Quote:

I have a minn kota on one boat, for 2 years now, no problem. Got a bass pro one on the other boat, going on 5 years, no problem so far, Bought a Pro marina off amazon, going about 4 years now, no problem.
MinnKota 330D three bank Digital...been using it for 8 years now...stays plugged up 24/7 when i am not fishing. No problems
Another vote for a Minn Kota digital. I have a 3 bank that works flawlessly and a friend has used one for several years without nary a problem or issue. One thing to keep in mind, charging is only one part of keeping batteries at optimal levels. To insure years of trouble free battery life get a charger that conditions the batteries as well as charges. Batteries are not cheap, your charger is a critical part of getting the best from them.
my question about on board chargers is what amp to use i have 2 batteries on 12 volt tm and then 1 on cranking duty what do ya use
Exactly my set up. 2 banks is all you need. Motor keeps cranking battery charged

I have the MK 330D on my toon and the NOCO Gen 4 for my bass boat. Both chargers are 10 amp per bank. I don't trust a 5 amp to completely charge deep cycle of AGM batteries. And unless you do a lot of WOT running your motor won't maintain your starting battery.
Not unless your trolling with the big motor it really don't keep it charged. If you have 3 batteries need a 3 bank charger, if you have 2 batteries 2 bank etc. I run my electronics, aerators, bilge pump all off my cranking battery like most everyone, my run time on the lake with the big motor is next to nil, compared with the draw from the other electrical components noted previously.Quote:

Still using the one that came on my 2005 Bass Tracker PT175--13 years and still good! Kind of like the Energizer Bunny!!!
thanks for all the input fellers. it has got to be a little tiresome changing out battery chargers that's been lasting
a year or less and sense the warranty is off and has only 90 days I wont be buying any more Cabelas chargers
hopefully the one I just changed out will last a longer time but at any rate when it blows up I will be putting a
different brand on my toon. thanks again for your input
Thanks for this thread. Last spring I found out my 3 bank Pro Mariner charger is only charging on 2 banks. I took the cranking battery off the charger and my trolling batts are charging now. Don't know how much longer it will last though so all this info is a good thing. Atleast I know kinda know where I wanna start looking. Thanks again.:)
yeah !! I have seen in the past few years if something breaks or turns out no good just ask on this board and somebody has been there and done that and are willing to share there thoughts on it which is a good thing and like GBM said at least you kind of know where to start looking. I don't like to bad mouth nobody but if all the Cabela's battery chargers are any thing like the 4 I've had in the last 4 and 1/2 years == well I don't know but I can see why they took the life time warranty off and now its only 90 days == enough of that == thanks again for the input and happy fishin to you all Remus
I run two different chargers, one for the TM, and the other for the starting, electronics. I don't want TM interference in my electronics through the charger. See several complain about it.
I too don't run the motor enough to fully charge the battery, plus the radio and sonar units draw a little power while off. I don't want to launch and discover my battery is dead. I plug in both chargers in camp or when I get home.

not sure GBM (because I was still little bit POd and not listening) but I think Cabela's offered some kind of extended warranty but it was
extra charge for it
