I'm not a pro jig tier but decided to make a few with bodies made of sponge. I'm hoping it will hold the Slab sauce better than plain jig. I took one out during the hurricane to the boat dock and they look good in the water. Now I just need some blind Crappie. Attachment 316409

That's nice fish right there. I've been using chenille but the redneck in me figured a sponge is porous and might hold slab sauce better. I plan to soak them a little and see what happens. Attractant is not required to catch crappie but experimenting is fun.
Good jigs, they’ll do fine. Good idea with the sponge.

The sponge is new kitchen sponge from grocery store. I cut a small sliver length way and wrapped it. To form the body I probably wrapped it to tight but I figure it's porous material and should work better than something slick. I plan to soak them to get them ready for fishing. Hope to try them Thursday. The weather has been bad here in Carolina so I haven't been able to experiment yet.

I fished my sponge jigs today and sorry to report not catching anything on them. The bite was hard and had to hit several spots to get a limit. Gulp minnows once again saved my day. What I did learn is my little sponge jigs did hold slab sauce pretty good. After fishing with them for several minutes they still had that oily feel left on them from the sauce. So far as saying they hold sauce better than soft plastic or plain jig body I would say yes.
if it absorbs that sauce it will likely get bit ….nice jigs btw
