September Ketchn
Fall has reared its pretty head , the fish are on the move . Some spots that haven't had much all summer long are showing signs of improvement . I have recently also seen some rather large specimens for our heavily fished waters and this in turn is a sign of the coming fall run .
Now mind you day to day it varied greatly as the shad are on the move and trying to stay where the food they like is in abundance . Algae blooms and or lack off draw the attention of algae eaters and when water temps lower algae blooms less. So in many spots the algae is better in shallower waters as they are warmer in most water bodies .
We are finding fish in abundance in areas they tend to frequent before the water temps really fall drastically . One location they were on a shelf in around 12 to 14 foot of water in large numbers and 2 days later they were up on top of the shelf stacked up so thick in 9 foot of water they blacked out the graph ! :yikes
Yet another spot has fish in 7 to 8 foot of water . This particular location is known to us to hold larger fish in the fall and spring and the last visit large slabs were viewed busting shad up on the surface .
With the weather being less warm and the bite being really good its time to hit it yawl . Less and less recreational boats and water craft on a daily basis and the fish are frisky . Many of the crappie are fighting like they mean it right now and we are also getting mixed species after our jigs .And on a final note colors and sizes of baits are quickly becoming a whatever you want to drop . And yes one of the two trips in the photos I kept a box of fish to refill the freezer .So in synopsis I would personally approve of any and all crappie anglers looking in them fall spots for a fish fry or two .:cheers2
stay tuned yawl
p.s. yes the yellow cat in the live well got a ride home in the crappie box as a donate to the hungry for fish folks !
KABOOM is near :Rofl

A few real good fish. Still busting high temps here but the length of days changing has brought the color in some of the maples, I noticed last weekend. Truly a fun time of year.

Always impressive. Enjoy the read. Thanks for sharing. :cheers2

Man I guarantee that flathead was fun to catch! We hit a streak a few year back that every trip we would catch a couple 3-5 lb flatheads on jig poles and buddy it was some kinda fun!
-
yes sir the little flatty was a hoot , my bud managed that one on a microlite with 4 lb test and the fight was on …..
he was pitching his signature "golfball" as we refer to it ...refrigerator white crappie thunder road runner ….
we don't carry a net in his boat and man did it chew my thumb up good when I lipped it for him ….:Rofl
