My oak tree is watered by sprinkler system every day and it's turning brother
93* here today. Cmon cooler weather.
91 deg here today and grass is growing faster/thicker then it does in the spring.Trees are green as can be but leaves are starting to fall off some of them.. supposed to cool down some later this week and next..haven't been able to get out but crappies are hitting.
Very hot here in the northeast as well. However.....the nights are somewhat cooler, allowing me to open the windows at night. And, in so doing, I'm hearing the crickets starting to sing! A sure sign the fall is on the doorstep. Trees are not turning yet. But it won't be long now.
I noticed the persimmons started falling Saturday. Acorns about 2 weeks ago. We just need a few cool nights and the fish will turn on.

High of 75 today, low in the mid 40s tonight.....frost advisory for the northern third of the state tonight, but our leaves haven't turned much at all.
Sure doesn't feel like it. August heat with a rain forecast like April here.
It can't come soon enough, it's been a brutal summer, and the fishing has been lousy, at least compared to last year.
94* here in NW PA and 77* at night. Hurry up fall. I haven’t gone outside since Saturday.
Down here in the cool Smoky Mountains, we have had four consecutive days of 90+. The only leaves that are turning are the one’s a burnin’!
Although the weather has been hot here the bite had been hot most of the summer....cept for when that stupid thermocline was set in....
I'm seeing the big girls feeding better now so yeap won't be long....
What temp do them crappies start grouping up on cover?75?

They are on cover pretty good right now but they don't want to bite. I'll see bunch on my brush but only a few will bite. Or that's how it's been for me.

Well we've had 3.75 in of rain since yesterday and probably going to get a couple more before it stops tomorrow.
Should cool the water down a few degrees as its been in the high 80`s for awhile now.. High temp today is 65 deg w/wind so that's going to help also.
I don't think we've had 3.75" of rain in the past 2 months. We sure need some.
Im so ready! I love the winter and fall Crappie bite. The lake level has been very low and ive been able to mark so many trees and laydowns without spending weeks idling around. Though i still do

Our water temp is 72, I am still learning so where do they move in the fall. Are they going shallow, both lakes I fish are also full of shad. I have noticed shad heading for the shallow water also.
thanks
They will tend to follow the Shad as they make their way into the backs of creeks/bays. Neither one of the Crappie species gets as shallow as they do in Spring, but the Black Crappie seem to be the ones that follow the Shad farther back into the creeks/bays & closer to the banks. The White Crappie seem to want to stay out along the deeper areas & along the channels, and don't seem to follow the Shad as far back.
Now, that's just what I've observed on some of the lakes I fish ... but, them critters have been known to make a liar out of me, so don't take that info as gospel. Jus' sayin' :biggrin
2× what crappiepappy said. Every lake is different but I look for brush and docks in the 15ft range but I have caught them in 4ft but not often

the crappie bite here seems to be getting a bit better the last couple of weeks
a bit cooler weather and a bit of rain coupled with shorter days helps it seems to me
….the daylight shortening plays a large role as well
most all fish and game have a daylight hours clock
bucks rut in 100 degree weather but tend to do it in the dark instead of all day long
lots of folks think that is driven by temperature as well
just saying …..
Yes water temp plays a big role. No doubt. Our water temp was 88 sat. Very slow bite. We need some cooler nights to cool it off and get them biting. Anticipating a good fall.
Come on cooler weather.
Good info, thanks guys I need to get back out and try again
I don't know bout what y'all are talkn bout, seems to me the feesh never did stop eating.... Now mind you on one of my lakes I never did really figure the feesh out when the thermocline set in hard but was still able to get on feesh....
I say that to say this..... The fish are gonna eat every day regardless of the season.....:dono

This tree (Red Maple) on our campus turns early ever year. Not photoshopped or enhanced any, the tree looks thin and unhealthy next to the other one, but always gives me hope in the late summer that Fall is near.

We are warm again, temps in the high 80's - next week cooler with rain
fishing reports look bad, going to hold out for cooler weather
Water temp was 70 last night, I was trolling around trying to catch a walleye and caught one Crappie. I was marking fish from 8' to a drop on 2d sonar I think they might be crappie. Thinking about going back with spider poles and try with minnows.
Any thoughts
Sticking with this thread since it motivated me to start up again. I went out last night and caught a few with spider poles in 20' and in 5' water. There was a person fishing from shore who I have talked with before and he was hammering them casting out a small jig and reeling in slow. He caught 3 times what I was catching.
Should I have switched over to just casting, I lost my confidence and kept at it but could not find them again.
Water temp 61, had better luck casting out a small jig with slider. Spider poles not producing the best. I did catch one really nice one. Temps dropping to 41 deg with a high of 57 tomorrow. Going to try again tomorrow
