Awesome, now what you are calling White catfish, are those Blue Cats? The Channels are the ones with the spots, correct? I usually give the good eating size ones to the people who fish around the boat docks and launches, and they always say the blues and the channels are the best eating. I caught a large (~9lb.) Flathead one night bass fishing and gave it to some guys fishing for catfish from the bank and they said they liked the Flatheads more than the others? Which do you prefer and why? Just curious :fish
I think there are black blues and then the ones we call white catfish. They are the ones you used to see in Uncle Buds Catfish on the walls. I would say whites and flatheads are close in taste. The meat on a white catfish is almost as white as a crappie. I usually do not eat channels much. When you clean a white catfish your hands will be greasey. They have a lot of fat in there meat. The water in the bucket I put those whites in yesterday had grease on top.
I used to fish KY Lake with a friend and we caught 4 species one day at the mouth of the Duck River. We caught black blues, channels, whites, and one small flathead that got to go back. I have recently just got my old jon boat back on the water with another motor. I have been fishing with friends for years. As soon as I get a side view depth finder, I am getting back to crappie fishing!!!!!!. We went to Old Hickory Dam a couple of weeks ago, and brought home 10 channels one day and 12 a couple of days later. I used to catch a lot of fish and have been out of it in my one boat for several years. I am back to it now. I just built a shed to put my boat in, so hopefully it will be ready to go most of the time. MT
Great report. Congrats on a good trip
Flathead are by far the best eating. Rarely do we catch them on anything but live bait . Whites ain't bad , channel have to be below 2 lbs otherwise their greasy .
That looks like some fun catching there!
You can download them to your computer photo files and use the icon that looks like a framed picture of a tree to post them.
You can download the Tapatalk app or Crappie.com app to your phone and use the "paperclip" icon to post pics from the phone.
BUT, regardless of which one of these you decide to use ... make a test run posting of a picture, taken by your phone, in the Testing Area ( https://www.crappie.com/crappie/testing-area/ ). Many phone pics that are posted are coming out on here turned 1/4 turn to the left, even though the phone was held straight up when the pic was taken. This is because the site, sometimes, doesn't recognize the orientation coding of the image & tries to correct it by turning it to the left. The easiest way to "fix" that, if your phone is in that group, is to always take pics you intend to post on here with the top of the phone pointing to your right. The site will still turn the image 1/4 turn to the left, but that will only result in the picture coming out correctly oriented.
