How did you tear it up ?
Dang Slabin you're looking old.
Why didn't you remove the 1 piston instead of tearing it all a part?
lol G and Spindle. I think its Mr Charlie rubbing off on me
Undoubtly you have no clue how a outboard motor is built. There is absolutely no way to pull a single piston. You have to remove the complete crank Assy to get the Pistons out. So while you have it completely torn down it only makes sense to build it right instead of Jerry Rigging it. If I'm involved in it its going to be done right and Slabbin is same way. Do it right first time or don't bother. I know you would probably go to the auction and try to find a used part to put in it but that don't work for me.
Cray, did y’all try duct tape?

Slabin, do you know what made it pop? Had an old Merc lose a piston because of a weak water pump. The motor was still peeing, just wasn’t pumping enough to cool the motor.
Had a bad injector in my Yamaha that caused it to pop. Expensive lessons learned

That's a nice looking rig . Needs to be on the water . Any progress today ?
Speck, this is my opinion. It has a good bit of erosion on and in the area where it failed. Since it is carbureted and plug sets dead center of combustion chamber it's my opinion that it was a bad casting from factory. Weak spot on that one edge and it just slowly over the years eroded away untill that part finally gave way. That piece wasn't the first piece to break off. You can tell other small pieces have come off before. They just went out exhaust port without damaging anything. That day it quit on us the piece that came off went directly into the hole in combustion chamber, hit plug and closed it up then back through hole and out exhaust port. Only lost 20 psi compression on that cylinder. With a new plug it ran fine just slower out of the hole. Good thing he decided to pull it down though because another peice was about to break off. Amazingly not a spot on head or even dents in piston. Couple tinny scratches below exhaust port that won't hurt a thing. Can't hang your nail on them.
Where are we at with this fellas ? Any updates ?
Cylinders honed. Waiting on parts
