Where would you go?

Ok my wife has saved her money to take all of us on a fishing trip this fall in search of big slabs and lots of keeper numbers. If you could go about anywhere you wanted to, where would it be, we are planning on the last few days of Oct and first few days of Nov. We have considered the lakes in Mississippi, Enid, Sardis and Grenada and I know there are some brutes caught there, but with everyone talking about all the dinks being caught and not many keepers she feels we can do that well around here. I would like to hear your thoughts, thanks so much and God Bless.

Ky or Barkley. I like Barkley, but decide closer to your departure date, to hear which one is producing. Easy enough to bounce from one to the other though, if you want to try both.
Do you know how to pull cranks? I`m just learning but have had a ball doing it, and fall season should be a blast.

I live 5 miles from a boat launch on Kentucky Lake and I would go to the "Big 3" in Mississippi. My 2¢.

If you want big slabs, go to Grenada. If you want numbers of good fish, ( 12 1/2 to 15 inches) hit Sardis or Enid.

I've never pulled cranks, I am a die hard spider rigger, I spider rig 100 percent of the time. Whether during the day or during the night with lights, I just like it and so far have been successful and learning every trip out. I appreciate the responses so far keep them coming please.

Oh, you got to understand what a dink or short is in Mississippi. It's very hard to throw back most of the shorts when they are measuring 11" to 11.75". Don't be scared, and these lakes are different in late October and can really be aggressive. You will have a blast.

Lol on the dink comment, just trying to plan the best trip possible for my family, there should be several of us going and they have left it to me to pick the lake or lakes we will be fishing for the week and I don't want them to be disappointed. As for me anytime im on the water with family or friends I am happy, catching fish is just a bonus. So far Mississippi is looking like the place to try.

We tell people coming down here to make your base camp at Enid Lake. Then you have a short drive north (30-40 min.) to Sardis Lake, and a short drive about the same to Grenada Lake. Check the forum for reports for these lakes this Fall and decide where you want to go. The fishing is tough this time of year, so don't be misled by dink reports. Like bandchaser said above, a dink down here is not like a dink someplace else. There are a great bunch of guys down here that are willing to help make your trip memorable, and you can't beat the hospitality!! GOOD LUCK!

Ok, one last thing. Book your cabin early, they fill up fast in the Fall! As for the weather, it's a crap-shoot, but you'll catch fish anyway. It's not too early now.

Where is the best place to stay in the area you are speaking about. I would like to have a large cabin or house to rent for the week so we could all stay together, but could take a couple smaller ones.

George P. Cossar State Park at Enid Lake. Great cabins, and very centrally located to fish Sardis, Enid and Grenada.
