For those with the seatbelt type transom straps, what kind do you have and have you had any issues with them? I'm going to upgrade to something better than my struggle, wiggle, pull slack, flip handle, too loose, struggle, wiggle, pull, can't flip too tight, rinse, repeat straps that I currently have.
Boat buckle brand straps are about $100
Reese straps are about $60, so...
But I want some that will last, not junk
I like mine probably one of the best things I have bought. Only takes seconds to hook or unhook.
Are yours Boat Buckle brand or another brand?
Boat buckle. Seem well made no problems yet.

I bought the Reese and they do just fine, no issues.
I have a set, no issues.
Boat Buckle for me, wish I had bought them years ago. One touch release and hooking back up takes less than 20 seconds per side. Hope they last for years but I would buy a set every year if I had to. I use the 1500lb capacity ones but we have a small aluminum boat.

Use the off center buckle / latch ones stainless ---- got from Cabela's $49.oo about 9 years ago and still in good condition.
I’ve had the Boat Buckle ratchet straps on my trailer for the last 9 years and love them. They’ve held up well. Those buckles take 5 seconds per side to hook up or stow.

I have used the Boat Buckle brand for several years and the only problem I have had with them is the springs that make them retract will eventually rust and break and you have to buy new ones, but they last many years.
Boat buckles, same problem as Roger with broken springs. I took mine apart and bent new tab on end and it's still working just fine. Talked to owner and he told me a couple of years ago he was working hard to get new ones built with stainless springs. So new ones should be better. If mine go south I can promise you I'll buy another set quick. Love them things compared to everything I have used over the years.

I have the Reese. They work fine most of the time. Some times I have to work with the rewind.

For those of you with the Reese straps, how long have you had them? I'm gonna pull the trigger on one or the other tomorrow. Anybody ever had a warranty claim with Reese? I've read some reviews by people saying one of their straps stopped working after one or two uses. If figure it's like everything else Chinese, you either get a piece of junk right out of the box, or a decent set. Odds are if they work 10 times, they'll probably work for years.
My Reese straps have worked for almost 3 years. One point I've found with them is when you get ready to retract them, you have to hold the strap straight out as you push the button. I used to just drop them and hit the button. Sometimes they would wind up, most times not. Hold them out in line with the rewind and they will do fine. I do spray the springs with WD-40 often.Quote:

I have Boat Buckle straps on all my boats also on my UTV trailer to latch my Rhino down. No problems for over 10 years.
My updated opinion is very simple. I’ve used similar products on a couple of boats since I bought the ones on my bass boat and I think that with the prices of all of these being reasonably close, buy the best STAINLESS STEEL ones you can find and you will be way ahead of the game. Road grime and in and out of the water took its toll on the ones on the bass boat, Reese if I remember right, and I was futzin with em a little before I sold it. Never in salt water. I look at other trailers atthe ramp and if I get the chance I ask about them and so on. The guys with the high end flats boats mostly all use SS ones and they LIVE in salt water. Now to be transparent, these aren’t a factor on my Jon boat but I have gotten an education along the way. Hope this helps someone, and I’m sorry cuz I know that when stainless and marine are in the same sentence, more money becomes involved.
I have the removable, retractable tie downs and they have been flawless. I think not getting them soaking wet everytime you launch and load your boat really helps
