I'm doing my reasearch before moving to Texas in the somewhat near future. I'll be in the Grapevine Area. Any input on where to look for real estate within say 30 miles of Grapevine would be appreciated.

Visited and camped there several times(our favorite campground ever"The Vineyards"). Very nice town. Great opry show on main st. 16 mile train ride to the Ft. Worth Stockyards(shopping, bbq). . Close to the airport. Nice lake. Great town with lot's to do. Very pretty around Christmas. Pricey real estate wise. I can't help about where to look, but pm RetiredRR. He lives in the area. Hope this helps even a little. We plan on visiting Grapevine this fall. Good luck.
Thanks D. What we've found so far IS most of the good places have very pricey real estate but there are some deals around. Be working in grapevine if all works out. It's a far cry from N. MS for sure.
I have a buddy that lives in Saginaw, it's a really nice place ( the houses are to close together). The lake Worth and marine Creek area are really nice too

PM Ketchn. He lives and works in that area. Bet he can help you out.
That one did pop up on my radar ..haven't looked at it yet
Traffic. Its all about the traffic.
And HOA's. You don't want that.
perhaps rent for 6 mos, year. figure out where you want to be, what traffic you can put up with.
Grapevine, lake lewisville, Lake Ray roberts, all reasonably close if you go north, northeast.

Might consider Carrollton, the east/west routes towards grapevine work out.
If you want a long commute and live in the country a bit.... Krum, tx. Sanger,Tx
I drive from Van Alstyne, to Coppell. an hours drive, plus tolls. like 40 bucks a week tolls. lol. But house prices are lower due to lower land cost.
That will actually be the plan once there we won't be in a hurry. We will take our time. Euless was one place mentioned but looks like crime might be an issue. Colleyville, Southlake, and Hurst are a few were looking at as well. This is why I don't move often lol
Hurst is like Euless in that respect, in my opinion.
Check out Little Elm,tx
if you have children in School - then honestly, I would make the North or east of Grapevine commuting sacrifice to get them in good, safer schools.
How about coppell?

I can't offer much help, but do know that Colleyville Nature Center that I hope to get to at some point to take pictures of their birds. One of my son's lives just out of Fort Worth near Argyle and the other lives in Mansfield. I will ask them about this to see if they have any good ideas.

Well one son already got back and said where my other son lives would be close enough to what your looking for. The one near Argyle so maybe something out near there. Denton is close to there, but I know nothing about that crime and such around all of DFW since I don't live there. Good luck!
Okay texting with my boys here is what they said!
Pop, it's going to depend on how much money he wants to spend. Anywhere from where I am in Argyle to Flower Mound, Colleyville, Southlake of Grapevine would be good. Heck, even Roanoke may work depending on what he is looking for.
We did have a few text back and forth around this, but nothing with saying until this next stuff from both of them!
Definitely stay away from that side of town. Arlington it anywhere around there.
Thats about all I got worth telling you, but if you end up with questions later send me a PM and I will see if I can help!

Bass Pro is very close!! lol
and a beer joint, Redneck heaven..
don't tell your significant other though.
Thanks guys for all the feedback so far.
It is GREATLY appreciated. Little Elm and Roanoke have both come up. Also Lewisville seems promising. Heck for the price of a 1300 sf home down there you could get a 3000+ around here. I officially took my name out of the hat for Raleigh position so TX will be it. We have decided to rent and take our time if and when it happens. Still a lot of homework to do.
The farthest you can stand to drive to work is the ticket . 45 minutes to an hour is best unless you are into the NEW Texas .
Even an hour out it’s pricey but there are nice homes available not beside a neighbor so close you can’t breathe . In town expect unruled driving as the NEW Texas has lots of new to Texas drivers . And yes the ole HOA thing is a bummer to encounter from what I have seen and heard .
Up that way homes are gone fast when they hit the market at high prices. In synopsis I would say go to the less popular areas and look around . Maybe get a map and draw a semi circle about an hour way from work and go at it like that . Also stay off 35 and 121 and 114 if possible ,they are a nightmare around town in the commute times .
30 minutes away will likely not be far enough away from the NEW metro mess to keep your sanity unless you can deal well with the masses .
125 a square foot is likely as California has a fair number of implants driving the real estate market up and asking price is typically the minimum number you can expect to pay as well ...sad but true
Makes sense. If I had my rather see I'd be 30+ miles out. I'm 36 from work now takes 45 to work and 1 hour home.
We are needing to change it up a bit for the Mrs so she can get to doctors easier. And yes I'm not big on New anything, or neighbors or crap drivers but.....

you might consider the Denton area or even near ray Roberts lake , pricey but pretty nice area ,growing really fast though
a fixer upper would be my choice as it will likely be more affordable as well ….just saying
Ketchn is giving good stuff! My oldest son lives not far from Denton, that is where they built him one of the mortgage free homes. He likes it out there, but know all around DFW things are popping and I don't think you can get far enough out to not have it come to you in the future! I know homes just keep going up around there!
Good luck and hope you enjoy Texas! However they do get some nasty weather up there, but guys you can get some kind most any place, but that baseball size hale is too much for me, lol!

So another quick question....they do emissions testing around the area?
