Guntersville Dead?

Hey good morning guys. I have talked to a lot of people that have been fishing at night lately and they are telling me the bite under the bridges are just dead. Soooo many stripes and gar. Tons of bait and no Crappie hitting. You all think it's these random popup storms with all the lightning and thunder shutting them down? Supposed to have a break tomorrow thru Friday morning. Might try them. We went Saturday morning and even first light when Crappie are supposed to be turned on, they were just not biting anything.

Anyone having any luck tightlining minnows?

The bite been slow but I manage 11 last sunday but last month I was catching around 18 or more every trip.. The stripes are not the problem itz the gar that running off.. The biggest factor is they have to be pulling water to turn the crappies on...

I tried the same spot 2 days after his video and not one bite. Same bait, same technique. I think it's just he caught them while they were in the area.

Yea, I'm going to look and see when they will pull the water. I think it's usually around 12 am.

The spot where Richard was fishing there always crappie there u just have to learn how to make them bite I always caught sum at that spot.. When they do pull the water itz turning the crappie on a lil bit only because the water is so High the current is not moving fast enough to get the crappie excited....going to try some glow in the dark jigheads this week...

They've been pulling water 24/7/365 for a while.

Probably got more to do with the heat. In my experience crappie start feeding on small baits in the heat of summer. Cut the next one you catch open and you'll see

Short Creek wasn't hitting on anything. There was 5 people fishing and noone catching anything. Let the jig fall 8 ft, 10 ft, 15 ft, bottom ... nothing. My buddy caught a bass and a cat. That was it. This was 11 am. We were at Town Creek from 5 am - 10:50 am ... nothing. 1 bass that was it. Now, PigjJig fished from 9pm-10am'ish with us. I met him there. He did good at night, but once it got daybreak, they just weren't there. I did see a ton of bait fish at Short Creek. We were throwing BG Baby Shad at them all different colors 1/32 and 1/16. That rock that was in front of Gene, I stood on that rock. Same technique. Nothing. Like the comment said I think it's this heat that just shut them down mixed with all the random lightning storms. The current was flowing good too.

So you're thinking maybe smaller than a BG Baby Shad bait? I was throwing 1/32 hair jigs too.

Says on their website, midnight 2 or more generators. I don't know if that means only at midnight they start or if it's midnight tonight to midnight tomorrow.

I watched crappie on a dock lite on lake Marin last year and they where feeding on what I think where shad that where no more than 1/6in long

sweet! I do notice I catch more on the tiny minnows. Not many stores have minnows around Guntersville due to the heat, so I usually have to bring mine from home.

If you want to downsize tremendously, get some Keystone minnows and try them. I think they're made by Renosky. You'd have to add a split shot to get them very deep.

I been catching them using BOBBY GARLAND 1.25" ITTY BITTY swimmers doubled rigged with 1/64 oz jighead if u just reeling in they will not hit it u have to twitch and Jerk it...since u mention short creek now expect there to be more ppl fishing there.. I never give away my spots thats why I keep catching fish..

I miss fishing Guntersville. I used to come down twice a year to rent a floating cabin off 431 in front of Wintzell's. The lady that owned the cabin would rent it to me for $400 a week and I would stay in April & Oct. Me and my dad installed some porcupine fish attactor's in front of the cabin. 1 off each front corner. They have been down for a couple of years now in about 11' of water. If anyone wants to fish them they were holding fish last Oct when were were down for our final visit as the cabin was sold to someone who is not renting it out now. The attached picture shows the cabin where they are located at.

If anyone know's of any floating cabins for rent on Guntersville for a reasonable price or a place on the water feel free to let me know!Attachment 310903

All us locals know that Town Creek is the only place to catch crappie.

Why? He was being nice. Others have to eat too. I don't get why everything has to be a secret. There are plenty of fish.

And Town Creek has been dead last 3 times we went. Friend of mine went to Short Creek this morning and only got 3.

In my opinion a person who only fishes jigs will out fish a person who fishes minnows..just because u can't catch fish at a spot doesn't means its dead its means u can't fish that Spot..somebody dead spot is Somebody honey spot... There penty of fish to be caught but when its tuff to catch them this time of the year I don't need extra 5 ppl fishing my spot because its already tuff to catch them.. You see now days richard is more

Anyone who lives there can tell where Richard is by the scenary.

I know how to jig. The bite was dead for everyone there not just me. I was just saying how TC wasn't producing, which blows my mind because every time we go, I catch at least 10-15. We were bank fishing so we weren't in the middle by the pilons. The water is 30 ft deep with a creek channel. I would assume they would be in there.

I was just kidding....nobody owns a spot. I don't let stuff bother me...its too easy to find more spots. Just go fishing and enjoy what the Lord has given.

Yup no one owns a spot but eveybody has there honey hole.. I fish this spot on guntersville itz one of my go to spot and it always produce fish for me and its also a honey hole for this older guy hes 67 itz been his honey hole for over 20 yrs. He told me... I use to fish with him at that spot me and him became friends... These days I see him I let him catch all he can from the spot because I have found other spots for him thats his gold mine..

Friend of mine went to South Sauty last night and came out with 2. They got to be on one of these bridges!

Best bridge right now is 69 or Warrington bridge. Even saw 3 cars at pumping station this week.More current there since closest to the dam when generating. bite is off and on starting around half hour before sunset. Using BG gum drop or key lime 1/16 oz 15 count .Try to find corner where the gar are not so thick your line will sink. Also try to fish with the current and let it pull you back into and under the bridge as the crappie set up to let the current bring the bait to them. Bite is lite for sure. Not sure why morning bites have diminished at most bridges ( 2 or 3 fish at best) other then I think with so many minnows in the water now they fill up quick and you just have to be there when they make their fill up runs. Stripe will pester you off and on as well at 69.

I hope no one gets discouraged about this. What is happening is just the normal cycle that happens at different times of the year. Just be patient and things will change and we can have good catches when the time is right. :fish

Not a bad hall for summer time congratulations. Most people turn up the noise to white bass but I think it's a great fish just under crappie in taste. I would put crappie a 8 out of 10 and white bass a close 7 out of 10.
