Pretty fish
Caught one of those in Ouachita Lake . Blue gill crosses with other pan fish real common I think .
We have the RE cross with the Northern Strain Bluegill @ lake Havasu and the RE cross with the Copper Nose Bluegill @ Lake Perris. I think the RE has crossed with the Green Sunfish @ LP also...
Get a lot of those here in MO. That's the best I can figure. They spawn at the same time here, and in the same beds. I've caught one mixed with a Green Ear. They look like an oversized gill with bright orange fins. Those are some nice ones!
Neat looking fish
Aggressive little dude! They do have some pretty colors.
looks like it could be a red ear to a bluegill , for sure a mix though and very nice size
Definitely a gillcracker, certainly was aggressive to attack a crankbait that size. Caught a couple this year here in Missouri. I love the colors on that one.
Thanks all!
Curently we are culling all LM Bass under 15" and relocating them. We also added about 50,000 breader size BG and coppernose over the last four years.
Also tons of the good (expensive) artificial structure under docks and reefs at about 12-15' just above the thermocline all for the gills to have some security. This is a Private community 350 acre lake and all work by volunteers.
They put too many Grass Carp in the lake 15 years ago and not a weed/plant in site.
Trollin for White Perch today and caught this "thing"

I just caught my first one like that two days ago in Lake D'Arbonne -- I had called it a red ear because of the colors but it had the same Black patch. There was a sand bar about 10 feet deep with scattered nesting bull Bream
Boy! If the smallmouths and crappies cross-breed we're going to be really testing our panfish equipment. lol
