Festival is in October. Some day I'm going to make that! I think the hardware store is Lanier's. Lexington BBQ has a couple smokestacks, that may be the one you're thinking of.
if you like bbq, you should try the smoke pit in concord or salsbury , everything in there is good, the brisket is hard to beat, i can smoke ribs with the best of them but i cant touch there brisket
If your ever in the Winston Salem area. Check out Bibs Downtown. Best pulled pork, brisket, and ribs. Baked beans to die for. I've had my share. They were on the show pitmasters and won a few rounds of it.

mmmmm, might have to take the wife out real soon:biggrin
I went to the bbq festival in Lexington a few years back and was very disappointed. I was expecting lots of bbq businesses selling food. All I found was a huge street festival with a few bands, tons of street vendors selling everything except bbq, and maybe one bbq restaurant had a spot with some trucked in chopped pork for sandwiches. I was so disappointed. Maybe I missed something and there’s an area for the serious bbq connesieur. I would not go back.
Little Richards in Walkertiwn is legit with pulled pork, ribs, and Brisket and GREAT fried okra. My favorite is Stamey’s, but it has to be the one across from the Greensboro Coleseum. Great smoke flavor and #1 best hush puppies. I can go into Stamey’s and get absolutely stuffed, walk outside and smell the smoke and I just want to turn around and go in and eat again. They cook right out back.

There is a BBQ joint on every other corner in Lexington. All are pretty good each a little different,We have our favorites, others not so much to each his own.One that needs to be on anyones list is BBQ center on the north end of Main st. They have a banana split to die for,and bring help to eat that thing, you will need it.
Gonna try that out. I’ve been looking for a good banana split.
Lexington BBQ Center is good and they are right about the banana split-very good and it takes about 3 days to eat it!
Thanks for all the tips for a newcomer to NC who loves good Q. I'll definitely try some of these out.
We're down in Indian Trail so any recommendations for down here would also be welcomed.
My goodness, thanks for all the replies. It looks like the wife & I have a lot of BBQ places to try..
Disappointed that no one posted any way points for High Rock..:Rofl:dono
Get some good ol' ENC BBQ.
Check out the Rock Store BBQ ,3116 Old Monroe Rd, Stallings, NC 28104
The festival is not where you want to go to eat bbq. I was very disappointed last year. I like Lexington bbq and the wife likes smileys. You can get the burnt ends at Lexington that I love.
At the BBQ Center now. Will report back shortly with first impression.

I guess all NC BBQ is vinegar based......I prefer the Memphis style....
Tried BBQ center and it was good but not great. Stamey’s by a wide margin as far as the Q and hush puppies are concerned. As for the banana split. My wife and I will go back again and take the adult kids with us. It’s huge and really good!!!!!!
Prissy Polly’s is Kernersville has both Eastern and Lexington style. Not sure what Memphis style is, but I do like both that PP has. Good banana pudding too.

Clark's Bbq in Kernersville was good last time I was there.

Take a kid outdoors!
All of NC BBQ is vinegar based, everybody mixes the black pepper, ketchup, sugar and other ingredients different than the others. Lexington BBQ center is usually good, but I have had some dry BBQ from there. To me if it's not cooked over wood coals it ain't BBQ! I need to get caught up and BBQ a Boston Butt soon!
