If it wasn't 9000 %$&#!#! degrees outside I would say you hit the same ice burg that sunk the Titanic. That's a heck of a hit!!
Was going 10 mph, must have been just under the surface. No tree tops in sight.
going to have to figure out a repair strategy once it quits draining.
Big ouch.
:yikes WoW I bet that stopped you dead in the water.
Is that a rib running down the front of the pontoon or is that just the two sides, welded together? I've never paid that much attention to the leading edge of a pontoon. If that's some sort of rib, that's going to make a repair tougher.
Those pontoon mends can a problem, hope it's something a new bead will fix.
Wow..
Sudden stop

We actually bounced off sideways but was quite a bang. Not a rib.
The hole is ragged. But not huge sort of curled.
I wish there was a reasonable tig welder around.
I’ve tried the torch and alumalite rods on other projects and not impressed.
JB weld now has a marine formula they are bragging on.
I might call them to check it out.
Just bring it down to Alabama and I'll fix it. We repair aluminum daily. :)
Wish I could Be FirFlyin.

Find a good aluminum welder near you. It can be repaired.
She may pull left a bit.
That is my current plan.
Going to check with a machine shop in Lincoln, mo.
Maybe weld a plate over it after straightening it best you can. That would beef it up. Maybe weld one on the other side also. If that don't work, get that rubber stuff they fix boat holes with on TV. lol
Was this in the G4 area where the Grand and Tebo come together by the State Park? There was a big log floating in that area Saturday. My buddy almost hit it. He said it was just under the surface and not really visible until you were on top of it.
Sorry for your boat. Hopefully it's an easy fix.
It won't be that hard to repair it. If whoever you take it to acts like it's going to be a major repair, kindly leave and take it somewhere else.
The only real decision you'll need to make is if you want the damage cut out and "butt" welded back or if you want it straightened up and plated over. That leading edge needs to be dead on plumb when they're done with it. I'd opt for straightening and plating over the area, but plate both sides or that toon is going to try pull to one side. If you decide you don't want it plated over, and want it cut out and butt welded together, I'd suggest asking them to put a backer plate in, and plug weld it in place. Butt welded aluminum is prone to crack in the weld. Aluminum likes to flex. Butt welds don't like to flex. Like I said we work with aluminum repairs every single day so to me it's a simple fix, but that's what I pay myself to do. What you have is a very straightforward repair.
Furflyin is shooting straight with you we do repairs as well. He is telling you right.
Ouch. I've had that Marine JB Weld stuff on a crack on the bottom of my transom for four years but I hit a stump the other day and it's leaking again. Think I might try it again. Lol
Ouch!
About how many years has it been since you checked stump hardness with the Merc 90 lower unit Ron ? We all thump em , but you seem to have rough luck...Hope you get it welded so the issue is behind you.
There ya go Dreamer aint that far from ya.
It has been a while . Overall had decent luck on the lake.
Ready to get back on the water. Sheps repair service. Wayne did a good job.
