I usually carry mine just like you did, except in my hat or shirt, or most recently my shoe lace. Most people just assume the barbs on the hooks work. Some of us like to test them out.
I carry mine unboxed in my back pocket. Got to be careful when sitting down. Takes a little practice:Rofl:Rofl:Rofl
Another favorite of mine is to let them dig deep into an onboard 1/2 in nylon rope.

I used to wear them like that all the time plus getting them tangled with other rods and lines when moving them. I am doing a couple of tricks I read about now that help. One is in storage I use those little rubber bands girls use for their hair and wrap them around both treble hooks which holds them close to the lure. They don't tangle near as bad this way. The other trick is for transport and when not in use on the boat, I take wine corks and cut them to about half inch thickness and then cut a small wedge out of it. I put one of these over each treble hook and stick the points in it. When I get ready to use it, I just pull the corks off and stick them in my pocket. Those two things cut way back on my treble hooks snagging everything in sight, including me a few times and it is really cheap.
aslong as you dont go past the barb into flesh yall are doing good
if i started carrying cranks again, i would be using these that rollup and fit in one compartment.
