Life Vest
Not sure how many have heard but a man that has been missing on Lake O the Pines has been found. His boat was found drifting on the lake but they couldnt find him. Sadly he didnt make it. This was a wake up call for me since this is my home lake. I will purchase an auto inflating life jacket this weekend. I fish alone or with my 5yr old most of the time and I keep thinking what if that was me. Fall out of the boat from hitting an unseen stump while trolling and hit my head on another stump or the boat itself. No one will be close enough to save me from going under. Its a scary thing. Im changing my tactics from now on. Wish everyone the best and safe fishing.

Can never be too safe! If you want to be safer get a PFD that does not rely on technology to inflate. They can fail but not too often. Best to have a standard PFD and you will float if passed out or not without fear of non inflation.

Not all pfd's will make you float face up. Could be the difference if your unconscious.

SlabSlider and Hanr3 bring up very important points, too many people by them based on just price, or have them just to be legal. But there is so little warning when a life threatening situation will occur and at such time no price seems to high. The founder of Culprit Worm Company lost his life, at a young age, fishing by himself on the Kissimmee River. If I recall correctly they believe he slipped off his bass boat and hit head and drown. Hope this sad incident moves others to change their fishing habits as it has you.

I spend alot of time in my Yak where crazy simple things happen at the weirdest times
Inflatables have been updated vastly the last 5-6yrs(deployment issues corrected)
IMPO death is never an accident,we all leave when its time and method means nothing
I wear a PFD to hopefully see the next chapter,I never depend on it though.

I don’t wear mine often enough ....thanks for the reminder

Several years back I finally bought a couple of the auto life jackets and I love mine. I never ever use to put on my old style ski-type life jacket, but this auto one is comfortable and I don't mind having it on a lot more!

Regardless of how manly you think you are wearing your pfd could save your life....
Nothing worse than someone you know have a accident on the water and not have theirs on...
I post about pfd safety every post....
Put it on and keep it on while on the water......

Bought an auto life jacket last week and wore it for over 15hrs of fishing in 2 days time. I forgot I was wearing it most of the time so it wasnt a big deal or any adjustment time for it. Alot safer too.

I used to put my ski type on when moving about 50% of the time if that. My fishing partner has had an auto inflate for years I finally got one and we both put them on at the ramp and take them off at the ramp now.

i bought the auto inflate that fits around your waste and works great. As stated before I would never wore one but after seeing several folks dieing becuse not wearing one and many of the goofy people on the lake I am not taking any chances.

Luckily I havent had to depend on mine but I have had a few close calls on the front of the boat. It really brings it home that we are always that close to falling in. With a child in the boat it doubles the risk for me. Not only am I in danger but my son would be too if I were to drown and he is left alone in the boat. I have been teaching him all the things to do to get attention. Honking the horn, the emergency whistle, how to stop the boat with the key or kill switch and how to activate my phone to call 911. One of these things may be called apon one day and I will be glad I taught him. Be safe out there!
