A Minnkota with Spotlock is the best money I've spent on my boat. I'd take the fish finders off the boat wayyyy before Spotlock.
Book a day with Rich Bay (Bigbaddad) who is a guide on Kentucky Lake and a sponsor here on CdC. He fishes from a fully outfitted pontoon and the cost of the trip would be well worth your time and money to see the ideas he has come up with. Plus you get to fish a day on Kentucky Lake.
My rig is not a traditional pontoon. It moe like a water sled with a motor.

I've been considering buying a fishing pontoon/tritoon. I think they give you much more space and they can fish deep water as well as fairly skinny water. They would also allow me to take out more people than the two I'm limited to now.
What kind did you buy, how big, how much motor?
Buy a tritoon if it is in your budget. Very stable in the rough waters of Kentucky Lake. And Clint, thanks for the accolades!! I still owe you a trip....got some free time finally in June. JRJ we can take a trip or if in the area call me and I can show you my setup. I have actually had two others set their boat up like mine. We also have alot of fun on the KnB pontoon!!

I have an afternoon trip today and I'll get a few better pics. My rod rack is by Cornfieldcrappiegear.com who is cajunfryer on c.c My rod holders can switch from spiderrigging to pulling cranks. they are trollmaxx holders.

I see the most important "cup" holders mounted on the front rail. Well done. :biggrin
From Observation at Okeechobee from KY retirees now living there(Serious Crappie fisherman)and it may work here.. The pontoons there are wired for a generator. The boat is set up with AC plugs so that you can either plug in clamp on lights or 6 foot florescent lights to hang over the side. Most if not all of the boats there have 10-20 rod holders on the rails. You stagger your fishing poles in the rod holders at night from 3ft to 15ft in length in the rod holders with your lights. I have seen this 1st hand. At least 150 boats lit up in the Kisssimmee river in January, February as it entered the lake. From my experience of two weeks, most if not all the boats beside us limited out with 25 crappie per person in about 2-3 hours each night I was out there with my friend who spends three months each year there. Most residences there catch their limit each night probably 60 times in the Jan-March time frame, just anchoring at dusk in the canal, turn on the lights, pluck some minnows over the side and tear them up, no special crap. Last trip, we set a 12" limit for our boat. So, after about 2 hours we had a nice pile of fish. So, If you Don't want to spend a pile of money with special stuff, and can fish at night for crappie, this might work here at various times.
