Yes sir , drill a small hole on each side close to the bottom . Fill with water when needed and it does not run off but slowly waters plants . I have some matts around each plant too . I used to use news paper and wheat straw . Trying about 1' square mats poultry farmers throw way that are in bottom of containers baby chicks come in . You can add fertilizer like miracle grow if needed . Mine should not need much . Over the years I haul leaves each fall to my goat barn and use it when I clean out , Poultry litter ( try to find ones using rice hulls in houses over Pine shavings ) , Cow or Horse manure , and lots of fish .
Since that photo some of my Tomatoe plants are topping those 5' concrete wire cages already .
