This is what works for me Adams Best Vanilla Extract , and it smells good to.
I know this doesn’t work for everyone, but I use “amber romance” from Victoria’s secret; works for me! Just make sure you tell your wife your gonna b using it before u go fishing..., or when you get back she’s not going to believe you’ve been fishing!!!
(Just joking)

I keep a bottle with me all the time.

I nearly sunburned my head Sunday. My hat was in my hand, swatting those dang things all day long. If I wasn't catching some nice fish, I wouldn't have put up with them and gone to the house! Avon's "Skin So Soft" (the original, not the bug spray)was the greatest bug repellent for everything back in the day. Even kept the bugs off the horses. First I've heard of Amber Romance, but if it works, I'd try it. I sprayed my hat with OFF and it had zero affect.

I heard that vanilla extract works. Never tried it though.Actually read it on the net yesterday.
I wonder if gnats are attracted by CO2 and a thermocell would work on them

Amber romance. Seems that some gnats bite and some don't

Deet does Not work
Neither does a therma cell
Vanilla does
There is a vanilla/ mint spray called Buggins that works good
I’ve never seen it in stores in the south.
I think it can be bought online

I did try Repel bug spray last Friday evening with 40% DEET. It not only didn't work, but I think it attracted them more. I got there just after noon and ended up leaving at 4pm strictly because of the gnats. The fish were still biting, but I couldn't stand it anymore.
Amber Romance gives me that masculine smell , while catching fish[emoji15]

Avon Bug Guard is the only thing I've found that really works.
Avon Bug Guard it works for me
Gnats are bad in Vermilion parish too. I was just talking about it when I opened CDC and found this timely post.
You know......there's nothing like the smell of amber romance mixed with sweat, sacalait slime, and crappie nibbles.........think I'll bottle it and call it "Evening in Paris"

Walmart sells a knockoff version of amber romance for about $3 a bottle. It works just as good, I keep 2 bottles in the boat
You know the name of it?

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I just got in from two days fishing in shorts and t shirt. All we had was repel. Looks like I' been shot with #9 bird shot.
I'd prefer the birdshot. At least it'd happen in one shot and be over with. Not drug out all day one bb at a time.
Hey there.....If your gnats r the same as our gnats (Missouri)..A local newspaper article was referring to them as "buffalo" gnats and said they are the same as "black flies" in
Canada......Here is a solution that does work for 45 minutes to an hour when you will need to reapply...Get a fine mist spray bottle (Wal Mart or reuse whatever you have after rinsing)and fill about 3/4 full of water.Add vanilla (pure or imitation is cheaper) and Listerine mouthwash....a few ounces of each and shake it up....Spray mostly your head ,ears, and shoulders......Again it only works for awhile when you will need to reapply....Hope this helps you
Another crazy thing....If you put in foam ear plugs they will also bother you less .....
This iw what i use. I had thought it was swamp water but i was wrong. Attachment 301049

Not sure if anyone near you sells it, but there's a product called No Natz that works really well. I sell it at my store. Buggins works pretty well too.
I tried imitation vanilla extract yesterday, (only a small portion of real vanilla extract, but at a LOT cheaper price), and it worked for about 45-60 minutes after applied it. Gnats would fog me until I opened the bottle. I put a little on a paper towel and rubbed it on my ears, face, forehead, and arms. They left immediately and I wouldn't see one for about 45 minutes. I can get alot of it at the cafe of the hospital where I work for nothing. Does a great job if you don't mind smelling like a pound cake all day!
Where is your store?
I tried the No Gnat with a little success after using about half I filled the rest up with Vanilla Extract and that works best for me. I like the mist pump sprayer for applying .
Bull frog sunscreen with insect repellent works Great !!

I have used Amber Romance cream with limited success but someone posted on FB that dollar tree sells a spray (vanilla brown sugar I believe) and I tried that Saturday and it seemed to work.
